i just bought a sony d22 off ebay for $14 shipped. great price, was wondering how good this portable unit is. obviously nothing great, but id like an idea of where it might stand.

did a few searches in the forums and didnt uncover much besides scraps of information about the player. its supposedly the same as the d2 and the d20.

anyone know how these sound?

another player im interested in is the d121 and the d141. some people on headfi seem to like the d141, and others like duncan gave it not-so-great ratings. then theres the d121, which is also sparse in info on the boards. anyone have any opinions on these?

The D-22/D-12 was the successor to the D-20/D-2. Seems to be identical, except for the addition of Megabass (and a black instead of grey 'Lock' slider...). Strong and clean headphone out. Sound is somewhat forward, whether this is annoying or fun depends on what you listen to...You say 'nothing great', so what's your impression?

To me, although this memory is going back ten years to 1993, the D121 was majorly harsh, and brittle sounding... it wasn't too bad at the lower volumes, but lost it completely at the upper limits...

Although, time moves on... would be interested myself in seeing a 'modern' opinion myself

what about the sony d-66? i havent heard much on that either. i picked one up on ebay, and im going to recieve it soon. is it the same series/line as the d-33? i hope so, or could it be like the d22, that sounds like its the same line, but is actually completely different?

i think robertR had a d66. robertR if you see this, can you give your input on this pcdp?

No, it's a '90 model, same as the D-11. D-22 is from '89 I think, D-33 is from '91.

completely different.

I have one, sounds not too bad, nothing to get really excited about though. Mine has a spindle motor that sounds like it's going to explode any minute however, so maybe that was distracting me...

i have a question for you guys. i have the ety er4p and im thinking of buying a converter for it to be a er4s. now as i understand it, the er4s needs an amp because its hard to drive. however, these older pcdps have very powerful headphone outs. therefore it wouldnt seem necessary to buy an amp, even with an er4s right?
