Or you can try DIY. Check post #31 in

Since then I've recabled it with cardas and also changed out the left to right interior wires with cardas as well. Pretty much identical to the offering from headroom except for the 4 pin XLR.

if ur running the cans amped....try getting or making urself a 75ohm or 100 ohm impedance adapter.

i did one (100ohm) for my colleague and he absolutely loves it.

I thought Headroom did HD-595 recables. I remember seeing a blue Cardas one when on their site when I had mine a while back now.

Drew at Moon Audio did a very nice installation of a Blue Dragon cable on my HD595. The cable upgrade was well worth it IMO. Improvements are evident throughout the audio spectrum; solid midrange, deep tight bass and natural highs. The slight grain that is present with the stock cable was also reduced.

i have no idea how it improves the SQ..but it definitely changes it...depends on whether or not u like it i guess...

heres something i posted quite sometime ago in the HD595 appreciation thread regarding the impedance adapters

guys...just thought id share sumthing... a cheap way of improving/upgrading ur HD595s

i made 2 impedance adapters... 220 ohm and 100 ohm. and got my colleague to test it out on his rig which would be :
PC -> Philips PSC805 USB Soundcard -> Cardas HPI mini-mini -> GoVibe 5 (with Elpac 24V PSU) -> HD595

specs of the adapters
220ohm - taiwan made stereo mini/ canare L-4E6S/ 220ohm resistors/ some japan made mini female jack.

100ohm - neurtik/ REAN plugs (the low end ones)/ canare L-4E6S/ 100ohm resistors/ some japan made mini female jack.

so i handed it over to him and when he tested the 220ohms (total 270ohms) he was so happy that his cans finally had bass LOL. and couldnt stop saying "my cans finally have boom boom!!". even i was shocked (ive always disliked the 595 for the lack of bass). but he did say the mids and highs were a little recessed now. most likely caused by the lack of volume i guess.

i just gave him another adapter for 100ohms (total 150ohms) a few hours ago to test and he said it sounds even better as its more balanced than the 220ohms. the word "wow" actually came out of his mouth. and hes still raving about how good his cans sounds

the adapters on my 250ohm DT990 made almost no difference honestly. only prominent difference would be the volume level. ive yet to try the adapters on my Philips HP250 (32ohms i think) to test it out.

as for pix... i aint gonna post them up as theyre too ugly

they just dont do my previous DIY cable works any justice hehehe.

so basically thats it...

but for myself and my take on the adapters...well i mainly listen to metal (the fast kind). i tested my colleagues HD595 and i think theyre absolute crap....yes crap (no offence though, i find the senns (HD595 & HD650) are so not for metal)... i seriously thought they were horrendous listening to metal...especially with the non-existent bass which made listening to it god awful!

adding the 100ohm actually made everything balance out like my colleague said. even for metal. i almost started enjoying them. almost, because of Senn's typical laid back sound signature which really doesnt suit metal. but i have to admit that they were a totally different beast altogether. and they really did sound good....

220ohm...sounded good as well... but i still prefer the 100ohm for the more balanced nature.

so if ur running ur HD595s amped, before going into expensive cable upgrades etc, id strongly suggest going the cheaper route and making/ getting the impedance adapters. i have never tried it with any other ohm ratings though coz i havent had the time to build one. but id strongly recommend playing around with it first...especially if u know how to use a soldering iron (i only have basic soldering knowledge and zero electrical knowledge, something like i know what should go where kinda level)

parts from radioshack should do fine i guess. and the resistors i used were very cheap resistors... mebbe costs something like USD$0.05 per piece.

also, its been months since i gave my colleague the 100ohm impedance adapter...up til this day he refuses to return it to me LOL
