Any love for the Activo CT10?

Hey Jason your back. So, lot's of people like the form factor etc of the CT10. Wut's up with sorting out some of it's bugs?. Also, can you read my above posts and provide some feedback on this thread regarding the Qobuz issue I've mentioned. I'm aware the Qobuz app isn't specifically developed by Astell&Kern & Co ( Co= CT10 partners) though it would be nice to know if these issues could potentially be a firmware issue, i.e solvable by Astell&Kern & Co .
@Bio-Rhythm first off, let me apologize for not getting back sooner. First day back in the office after the High End Show in Munich. I am slowly catching up on the forum questions and hope to be caught up in the next day or two.

The Qobuz Android app is super buggy. We have addressed this with the Qobuz team numerous times and share feedback constantly. It is getting much better with each update, but agree there are still issues. The majority are issues with the app itself and cannot be fixed by AK. We are hearing the same issues with other DAP manufacturers using the Qobuz app.

New firmware for the CT10 is expected around the end of the month. I will check again with the dev team later this week. I have been testing it the past few weeks. Included are a number of bug fixes which should address a number of the issues shared over the past few weeks, along with additional app support.

Let me read some back posts and get you more updates.

@JasonNYC I'd be interested to know your thoughts on the following memory related issue & if it occurs on other CT10's.It's repeatable on my device.

* After factory reset CT10,formated SD card & new Qobuz Install.
*Set Qobuz to import music to SD card.
*Import X (e.g. 687MB) amount of music.
*CT10 system information- SD card= 687MB (contents) and Internal storage = 687MB (system).

Maybe this memory issue is related to why, after a certain amount of time,trying to play music files imported into the Qobuz offline library on the CT10 suddenly starts to give the "No wifi signal" message. And then the player just keeps repeating that message as it goes through every music file on the playlist.

Just getting into the office. Let me take a look on my CT10 and confirm I am getting the same thing you are seeing.

@Bio-Rhythm What version of the Qobuz app are you using? Is it 5.1.8?

I was in a similar situation, with little experience of DAPs and made a leap of faith purchase in the CT10 (having seen one going for £190.00 on UK eBay). I know that the internal chips are shared with a much more expensive AK model and that the sound is reportedly similar. I have used it more or less exclusively with 1more quad earphones.
What I can report is that the sound is detailed and satisfying. It is an easy to use device and I haven't needed any support for it as it does everything it is supposed to (ripping, playing, using Spotify and Tidal), without any real hassle and I use it with a pretty old Mac. My better informed son told me that it compares favourably with all the other DAPs that he has heard and is going to buy one.

Thanks for really helpful insight @digdog !

Since I’m so new to dedicated audio equipment (excluding AV’s) every few weeks I find myself stepping back to see if where I’m headed lines up with HOW and WHERE I consume music and then adjusting course as needed.

My latest “review” has made me adjust course from portable solutions to creating a setup for my home. If I understand the Head-Fi rules correctly I will post my questions about this in another forum.

Thanks!

@JasonNYC . I set the Qobuz app to storage for imported music = Internal. And the CT10 system reports the music files are being stored on CT10's internal storage.

But after clicking to play many tracks in the Qobuz offline library (not all) the CT10 won't play the track and reports a "no internet connection available" :frowning2:. When I turn on Wifi the same tracks than give a " It's impossible to play this track.Thank you for trying another playback format or a different track" in pop up grey window.

After tests ( AirpIane mode), I experienced this same problem whilst using Qobuz offline library on my phone.

Thank you for the additional info. I was testing yesterday and experienced some of the same issues as you have. Doing some additional testing today with some of the other AK players and a few previous versions of the app to see if we can figure out where the issue lies. I will give you an update once we finish some additional testing.

@Bio-Rhythm

I confirm I am having the same issues as you on Qobuz 5.1.8. Looks like all offline tracks are saving to internal memory even though I select SD Card in the settings. When disconnected from wi-fi, I receive the same error message that tracks cannot play.

I removed 5.1.8 and installed 5.1.7 and all the issues disappeared.

I can confirm offline tracks are saving to SD Card and not internal memory and all offline tracks play without issue with wi-fi turned off.

I am assuming it is an issue with the 5.1.8 app. Qobuz broke favorites for some people (I wasn't affected) a few versions back where favorites were not showing up and supposedly fixed it in 5.1.8, but I am assuming this fix broke offline for some people.

I would recommend deleting version 5.1.8 and using Qobuz 5.1.7 for now if you want to use offline mode. I will pass all this info onto our contacts at Qobuz USA.

If you need the older version, when you go to APK Pure, at the bottom of the Qobuz page, there is the option to download previous versions. Could you please try it and let me know if you are still having the same issues?

Ok I will roll back to 5.1.7. Though I think I was having the same problem with that version also ( I will get back on that one).

To Qoute Qobuz Email to me;

"Our application had a complete rework and updates will be launched upon a regular basis.
We are sincerely sorry that the application did not bring you satisfaction.

We noticed this bug.It should be fixed by the next update.Qobuz makes lots of effort to improve the service.".

I removed 5.1.8 and installed 5.1.7 and all the issues remained. Though I predicted they would because these bugs have remained through several updates. I'll have to try another offline content provider. You'd think Qobuz would not release Beta level android firmware. Once any user leaves to another more stable service they have no reason to come back.

I'm just playing a Qobuz offline track now, It plays for the first 28 seconds that keeps looping back to the start with a " it's impossible to play this track_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ try another format" ( because the software is unstable). At least it's playing :)

One other suggestion I would make is to erase and format the SD card in the player, then do a factory reset. Once you perform the factory reset, install Qobuz 5.1.7 and see if you still have the same issues.

Strangely enough, their issues seem to be completely random. The previous bug where favorites disappeared for users only randomly affected a certain percentage of users with no rhyme or reason as to who was affected.

@JasonNYC

In Settings --> USB output, there is MQA --> Software Decoding on/off. May I know what is the function of this selection?

If I select 'on', will Activo CT10 allows the decoding/processing be performed in the external DAC? I am asking this because I am wondering if Activo CT10 has similar functionality as IOS Onkyo HF Player app, where there is a section called 'Real time DSD conversion', where the app will 'ask' the external DAC (eg. Mojo) to convert/upscale PCM to DSD before playback.

Thanks in advance for your kind attention.

Just my .02
I just tried the Activio CT10. I liked the interface, the responsiveness was impressive after about an 10 second power on. Good wifi, bluetooth connectivity, but I found 2 show stoppers:
1. As one of the features I was looking for was the PC-DAC option, I found that the sound was not relayed to bluetooth once the DAC was engaged.
2. The bluetooth sound was dismal -- the volume was extremely low. Connecting the same headset or ear buds to my phone or directly to my laptop, I could never use full volume as that would be too much -- connected to the CT10, I had to use full volume and even then it lacked sound.

The device sounded very good connected via wire, but I was looking for bluetooth + DAC and when those did not deliver, I returned the item.
