Greetings... I don't see many posts about this JVC player and am interested in durability or any other problems with it - ANYBODY had one of these for a while (like > 6 months) that can tell me how well it holds up? I definitely want one from what I've read, but can't afford a disposable player for this price

Anyone? Thanks for your thoughts - Tod

Very durable. I got one used more than two months ago. I don't know how much time it has on it, but I'm sure it has been out for more than 6 months (prolly much more). The scratches show the presence of time, but battery life is impressive (more than 20 hours, maybe 24, and it's an hard drive player), and it works perfectly.

Thanks for the replies, guys.... I guess there aren't very many people who have this player. I suppose the design and features aren't very popular in today's dap market, especially at this price point - but I'm just interested in an audio only player with great sound quality and this just might be the one for that - I think I'm gonna go for it

The JVC player is the best player in sound Quality on the market...
The only problem is the small hd drive 6GB is just not much.

It has a custom EQ that in my opinion works well. It consists of 5 bands, 50Hz, 200Hz, 1kHz, 3kHz, 14kHz. Power of each band goes from -6dB (half volume at that frequency) to +6dB (double volume).
I also like the Subway dolby preset, that couples greatly with my Altec Lansing iM716 (and may be a good match for the Atrio, for better slam, closer vocals and more detailed highs).

Thanks for the information - that's exactly what I wanted to know - So, I pushed the pay button today and ordered it! I'm hoping this will be a real WOW! for me because I've only listened to mediocre sounding daps so far.... will post impressions when it comes. - Tod

I did get it from Ebay, per your suggestion. It seems hard to locate elsewhere and the seller had 100% feedback. Now I can find out how discerning my ears are.... btw, one of the appealing JVC features for me is the L/R earphone balance, as one of my ears noticeably doesn't hear as well -this is an uncommon dap feature, with the exception of the cowons, as far as I know.

The earphone balance works very well, in my opinion. If you have some money to spend, I suggest that you try the Altec Lansing iM716 with the JVC. The sinergy is AWESOME. There is as much detail as with the ER4P, perfect instrument placing, and the sound signature is lively (unlike ER4P), with some hard-hitting bass. The Altec and Subway preset seem to love each other.

How are yours modded and how do the stock ones compare? At this rate, I'll be pennyless before the weekend in my search for the holy grail of portable sound

I've heard that the AL takes lots of power unamped and has that heavy gadget hanging on the wire - Tod

I suggest that you ask EFN or some other good gu to mod them for you. Mine have been modded to remove the pod and change the impedance, in order to keep the details of the HD mode and some of the bass from the Bass mode. The result is great. The JVC has some hiss that can be heard when no music is playing (at the end of a song). With the Altec at 41 Ohm, this disappears completely. While the Etys need a volume of 19/30, the Altec need 21/30 to play reasonably loud. So they are not difficult to drive at all, just a tad more than the ER4P. The sound is more lively and fun, while keeping almost all the detail provided by the Etys.
