Hi Gang - looking to pickup some IEMs but I'm stuck for choice.   UE Triples  at 120 quid on Amazon seems the best value (biggest discount), but it's more than I wanted to spend.

The other set I have my eye on are some SoundMagic PL50's - right on budget at 60 quid - but no saving on list.

Also drawn to Ety's - but I understand they dont get really good until you further up the range.

Soundwise, well, I'm a grado man so I like and expansive sound, neutral sounding, would choose bass treble bias over midrange.

idea and hotdeals welcome.  a big saving on list would tempt me to stretch the budget

Buy the Radiopaq Jazz on Amazon UK for 10 quid. The list is 60 quid. Save the remaining 50 quid for something else.

I picked up some of these Rediopaqs for a £10.....they're something...... different !

As has been written elsewhere, the bass is deep, clear, and heavy.  I like my sound this way, but even I know its on the heavy side -  but i should stress it remains crystal clear.  However, beyond that, it all starts to unravel a little bit.  They are not without detail and describe the percussion through the frequency range with some accuracy - but the presentation is to my ear very clumsy.  Things tend to sound like they are in wrong place, positionally, spatially and the result is a slightly muddled image.

With uncomplicated productions, they fair much better.  If you can imagine the traditional 4 piece band on a small stage - drums at the back, lead guitar to the left, vocal front and bass to the middle-right, they handle such arrangements with authenticity.  However, the relatively complex spatial positioning  options available to modern producers and engineers are not interpreted at all well.

Let's be clear -  at £10  if you can get them, you must  add them to your collection.  Even if it's just to grow your  experience with IEMs - they have  unique and valid signature that is a useful reference point.   It's obvious that  some thought,  design and yes  'tuning' has gone into building them, but overall they lack the ability to faithfully reproduce music as the producers intended.

I'm glad I own them and would buy again, but for £50 I'd expect more honesty and neutrality.

Regards
JJ

I just bought some Etymotic HF2s from Amazon UK for £64. Once you get a proper seal they sound very good, amazing clarity and tone.

The HF5 is remarkably close to the ER4P. I think its a stellar deal, as is the Vsonic GR06. MDREX600 is good at its price point. Head Direct RE0 is a perennial deal. The HF5 and RE0 are a little more trebles focused, the GR06 is mid focused w/ warm bass. Not sure of a budget triple.fi.
