Hello Everyone, I am a huge admirer of this site and the people on it.
This is my first post, and I'm glad to be here! And I wish it could be a more upbeat first post, but here goes my little problem at the moment: In the last few months I purchased some gear that I'm very, very happy with, based off what I read a lot of folks saying on here. My current setup is: MacBook Pro - Modi Multibit - Valhalla 2 - Audioengine A2+ speakers/ Sennheiser HD600. Feel very pleased with this and am having all kinds of wonderful experiences.
However, just this night, in this setup, I noticed a very present humming sound coming out of the A2+ speakers when the volume knob is at or above halfway. This led to lots of backtracking. When I isolated the a2+ and directly connected them into the MBP via USB, and turned the a2 volume knob all the way up, the hum is gone (same when I fed it into the MBP headphone jack). Likewise, when I disconnected the a2+ and ran the MBP -> Modi->Valhalla 2 -> HD600, there are no hum issues either. I then tried disconnecting the Modi MB and went MBP -> Valhalla 2 -> a2+ and voila, the hum is back again!
So it seems to me that somewhere in the Valhalla 2 -> Audioengine A2+ situation, I've got an issue. Im using these cables, which I know are pretty cheap, but they have dual shielding:

I even tried trading out these cables with another exactly like it, and the same humming issue crops up.
Everything is plugged into the same wall outlet (the Valhalla 2 has its own socket and the a2 and MMB and MBP are on a power strip).
I guess my question is: am I dealing with a hum problem here that could be solved with an Ebtech Hum X, or is there something I'm failing to consider here? Any ideas you have would be so great.
Thanks and have a great weekend!
