Strange, I couldn't find anything either. I bought mine on eBay for a little under $50 ($47?) shipped but I couldn't find any one eBay.

I wonder if it's no longer being made.

I like the E888 a lot and they're much better than the much-touted MX500 (but they should be considering the price differential). I find myself using the E888 more than my CM7.

The CM7 may have a little better overall clarity but I have a tough time positioning the CM7 in my ears. They sound better if I rotate them slightly forward but because of their weight and the way they fit me, the earbuds rotate back to resting position.

There are also DTX 30 and DTX 40. I don't know what the differences are, Beyer isn't writing much about them on their page. I just picked the one with the biggest frequency range and in hope it would have good bass.
I compared them to the AKG K-14P, some Philips and Sony Earbuds, and some cheap no name buds. The Philips and Sony buds are in the same league as the no name thingies, the K-14P is good, but the trebble is a bit harsh with some songs. Oh and I have the Stax SR-001, but it isn't fair to compare normal buds to them.

I'll try some Senns next, but I doubt they will be that good as Sennheiser makes the iRiver and iPod earbuds, and those don't get good ratings. But as the MX 550 are only about 19 Euro here at Amazon, it's no big lost if they are crap.

I don't think they make the Sony E888's any more. I bought mine from Minidisco a few months ago (SP cord) and it cost me $60, something like that. Not too expensive. After you break them in a while, they sound really good for a cheap earbud.

The EX71 by comparison has REALLY bloated bass. It became even more apparent to me how bloated the SONY Bass is on a lot of their phones after I received my Beyer DT880. I know, different price class and all. But the E888s are not expensive, and pretty balanced in comparison to the EX71.

The new EX81s are supposed to be more balanced.

Anyway, there is a Sony Style store near me, and they don't carry the E888s, and in fact I don't see any more "regular" earbuds there. I think they're sticking with the IEM design as standard....

But if you can get them for about $50, the E888's sound good and are cheap enough to not mind bringing to the gym.

The EX81s really aren't any different to the EX71s, apart from how they sit in your ears - they're held out a bit more by the bits that go round your ear so you don't get as good a seal, and this is why they sound different. As I mentioned above, I think the Panasonics are far better, and they're dirt cheap too

Thanks Kam. I read on Ipodlounge that they have a more neutral presentation....but the headphone review guy isn't exactly what I would call an audiophile, ha.

How much were those Pannys? I've never seen them before.

They do have a more neutral presentation, as the bass and highs are tamed by the greater distance from the ear

You can get them from Amazon for $25, you can find them for lower prices (see here, here, here), but I'm not sure about those retailers. Oh, and Ebuyer have them for a great price here, and shipping'll be cheap too.

Me, I got mine for the ridiculous sum of £35 with the intention of trying them for a week while in Malta and taking them back if I didn't like them - but now my Dad's buying them off me I only feel slightly bad about paying over the odds, they're worth it anyhow as the EX71s are about that price over here too

Another vote for the AKG K-14P. Picked up a pair last week as a general earbud at work. I use ER-6i's when I travel, but for everyday use the K-14P's have nice tight bass and a really impactful sound.

These panasonic are not bad for the money. I will choose these phons over the ex71. Lately, I order the Panasonic RP-HJE70 Aluminum Stereo Earphone. These phones are very light weight. Bass performance is good, and sound character is almost as same as audiotechinca.

Me too. I like the AKG K14P for work, as it's easy to insert & remove, and it's unobtrusive. The inline volume controller is also convenient sometimes. The only thing I don't like about them is the stiff cord, which is just annoying.
