Hi,

I currently own Grado SR80i as full sizde headphones and Senny IE8 as portable.

I'm qute happy with Grados but they somehow suffer from lack of something that I can't put a name on it(bass may be..). I love the sound signature of my IE8's.

I'm looking for a closed Full size HF with sound signature similar to IE8s.

So far I'm considering HD228,HD238, or maybe Aurvana live...any suggestions?

Oh..my budget is tight and I may not find all the brands where I live.

People here are suggesting an ALO780 as a can that approaches the sound of the ED8. I have only listened to an recabled HFI780...and it was pretty nice. The ALO goes a step further and does internal mods to increase bass performance, etc.

The OP said his budget is tight....
ALO780's are way more expensive then HD 228, 238, CAL.

CAL'S arn't that far off in terms of warmth and bass, although the instrument separation/detail and midrange isn't nearly as good, but then again it is half the price.

My D2000's are a bit better, but a bit bright and again, midrange isn't as good.
