I just purchased a Cosina 19-35 (same as the Vivitar series 1) Lens to use with my Elan II, first few shots I was getting a check battery error, then it started working, and then quit again, seems like it isn't focusing right.

I then tried it on my EOS 650 and it won't fire at all, it just flashes BC

I unfortunately purchased it from ebay, 47thstphoto, they stated they want a 20 percent restocking few to give me a refund, even though the item is defective

or they can send me a replacement lens.

Should I waste my time with another lens, or eat the $20 it will cost in restocking and just save up for a better lens?

About the only thing I can think of is to clean the contacts on the lens mount. Use a Q-Tip and alcohol (preferrably denatured alcohol, but 90% isopropyl should work ok.) Clean the cameras contacts as well. If that doesn't fix it, I'd chalk it up to experience and save up for a better lens.

You may also want to try the Canon SLR Lens forum at dpreview. Someone there may have an idea.

Well I went ahead and cleaned both bodies contacts, and cleaned the contacts on the new lens. So far I fired the shutter off about 60 times testing from 19-35 and it worked flawlessly, I then dismounted and remounted the lens several times and fired off another 30 or so shots and it worked fine. Also worked fine on the 650...

I guess I will just take for a test spin tomorrow or Saturday and see how it works.
