These have been around for a while. Anyone try them yet? i almost bought a pair on audiogon 2 weeks ago, but missed out.

At 8 watts each I was wondering how they would do with the AKG 1000s. Hmm tube monoblock headphone amp???

I was going to try them w/ some Klipsch KSF 8.5s

I wonder how they would roll?

Anyone have any real experience?

these are $99.00 hum boxes.they sound decent and very "tubey" but they need some work to sound their best and they do not like speakers with big woofers.I tried them with a few different speakers and sources and yes,for $99.00 they are not a bad deal, but they are not giant killers. If you can get a set at or near list buy them, they usually resell very well and you won't lose anything.

I got a pair of ASL Wave 8s today, and will hook them to a K1000 tomorrow. Since I won't get a Creek OBH-10 passive preamp. (for controlling the volume of the Wave 8s) until next week, I'll use a Grado RA-1 headphone amp. to do so. Am also expecting an ASL AQ1005DT power amp. in a couple of weeks; i.e., I ordered a used unit today. Assuming the AQ1005DT works well, I'll evaluate the sound of the K1000 with the Wave 8s versus the AQ1005DT. Control of this amp will be with the OBH-10. Hope that's an OK decision, since I have no experience with tube amps, or with such comparisons and evaluations. I'll report my subjective results and opinions, for whatever they are worth, as I go along.

That'll be very interesting, MikeG! Darkclouds has been using the big ASL with AKG1000s and I believe he's getting great results.

I need to clarify that the ASL AQ1005DT is not the same amp as the ASL AQ1005DTI. The former is a power amp without source selector or volume controls, while the latter is an integrated amp with these controls. The DT version that I am evaluating with the K1000 is described at the following site:

Sorry, thanks. I was assuming that they were the same except for the line level inputs and gain therefrom.
