Wanted to start this rather than hijacking rkb2948's thread.
I've got a crappy laptop which I'm looking to replace with a nice new Vaio. Currently I use the Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS soundcard to get a better sound (and full speaker support) for my old-but-functional Creative 5.1 speaker system.
However, that Creative card is PCMCIA and the Vaio I want has ExpressCard 34 instead. So the two options that I've got in mind would be to get an ExpressCard -> PCMCIA adapter or the Creative X-Fi Xtreme which has the ExpressCard 34 interface I need.
I was just wondering if anyone on here has any experience with this latter Creative soundcard and if they'd recommend it. The adapter costs about US$160 and the X-Fi card is roughly US$100 if that helps. Would I be better off spending the extra amount on the adapter and keeping my current 'card or is there no difference (or even, is the X-Fi better)?
Thanks everyone,
ugo
