Okay, even though I've heard the competitors under a couple setups, I still have trouble deciding if it's worth it. Personal preferences I know, but which do you think with the major price difference, is the best overall choice? To put it simply, we're talking a 366% cost disparity.

I think it all depends on the price of your source. If you have a $500+ source then there is no reason not to get the HD650 Silver Dragon/Zu combo. If you're running a $200 source and have no interest in upgrading it then might as well get the HD580s.

I guess IMO its all about balance:

$500 amp
$500 source
$500 headphones

$200 source
$200 amp
$200 headphones

Sunds pretty reasonable to me...

Yup, he said it. I think the 580's are an excellent value for their price point and one that comes up time and time again as a recommended "bargain". But the same can be said about the 650 / Silver Dragon at their price point. I've now heard practically all of the available Senn replacement cables with the 650's and the Silver Dragons are still my favorites. Thus, I can't really vote one way or the other!

I voted for HD-650/Zu or Silver Dragon. If you want to hear what your Senn can sound like, these two cables will take you there. One advice, you need to have a good source and a good amp to justify the difference.

I definitely agree with that statement. That said, I've been very happy with my hd650/Zu/pre-head/MF A3cd combo for quite awhile.
