Another "Help name that song thread"

So my sister's been wracking her head all day trying to figure out this song so she can buy a CD of the Artist with this specific track on it. I feel really dumb because I've heard this song many times and know that I knew that Name and Artist once-upon-a-time. I've got a quick keyboard recording she did (only about 16 sec, but it's the key part), and I was wondering if anyone here could give it a quick listen, and give her a song name and artist.

I'm not entirely sure of the genre...I want to say classical. My mother used to have a music box back when I was 5 that used to play this song, which is where my memory of hearing it for the first time comes from. Unfortunately, the music box only sounded moderately better than my sister's little dirge on the keyboard.

@FeedMeTrance--> Thanks for giving it a shot. I know the sample is rather short, but unfortunately, that's all my sister remembers from the song, and I am easily one of the worst people alive for trying to play the song out or even try to generate the onomatapoeia for it.

Hmmm, it faintly reminds me of Pachabel's Canon in D with it's downward progression, but the melody doesn't really sound like that.

The sad thing is I know I've heard something that sounds more like that and now I can't remember it either. D'oh!

I think this is the Vitali Chaconne in g minor. This part would be a little way into the piece... and doesn't match exactly, but it's pretty close.

I tried a version of Vitali Chaconne by Susan Chang on Youtube. It sounded quite nice, but I'm pretty sure that's not the song. Thanks for trying though.

It was the theme song to 'Love Story'.
