Nightfall:

Awesome purchase. I'm really looking forward to hearing your impressions with the K1000.

Still, to blame all of this on the Detroit meet??

Thanks for the kind words Tom. I dont actually HAVE the K1000's yet, but plan to grab some after my finances recover from this, and an upcoming source upgrade, as you and I have discussed previously, either by an outboard DAC or new cdp. Still, I was really happy to realize that I would have the advantages of using both my other cans AND the K1000's with this one.
You're welcome to bring your K1000's with their fabulous new cable by the house anytime and try them out on the new amp.
As for the Detroit meet.............that was clearly the most expensive FREE event I've ever attended! <g>

Smoking choice. You will love the Cary's.
A case of synchronicity here. I am splittling time between Dearborn and Irvine, CA for work. I found a dealer in Irivine selling some Cary demos. Had my gear with me (headphones, cables) and the dealer let me borrow a Rega Planet 2000 (which I used to have) a Cary SLP-88, Cary SLP-2002, and Cary SLI-80. He had all for sale as demos.

Ultimately, I went with the SLP-2002.

Cheers.

Well, you're probably not legally sane, but if you were you'd really stand out here, wouldn't you? That's a nice amp, I am in pretty much the same position as you, the ASL seemed a bit too risky and I'm looking around for something else. This might be it!

I use a 30w push pull amp as a headphone amp and am really enjoying it. The sound is very full and the vocals are the best I have heard them.

Bonus I now have a speaker system after stealing my Dad's old speakers hehe..

Well,

I gave the Cary 24 hours to burn in before listening, wary of the warning Cary listed in the manual that it would be "sterile and thing sounding early on". I truly wanted the amp to have a fair chance to settle in before I put the headphones on. Especially since they state claerly that it takes at least 100 hours to fully burn in and reach optimum sound quality.
I've been listening for three hours now, playing handpicked "favorite cds" that I know every note of all I can say is that there is a big smile on my face. And after only 24 hours, if this is going to notiecably improve further, I cant WAIT!
I'll offer a full review after I'm well past the hundred hour mark, and have had the chance to fully audition it in every regard. I can say this though, I dont regret a cent of that budget and a half that I spent on this beautiful, superbly built piece of equipment.
I just listened to the wonderful new Roseanne Cash cd, "Rules Of Travel" and in the terribly moving song in which she alternates singing with her dad, the legendary Johnny Cash, his voice just leapt into my ears as though he was sitting next to me live. Nuff said for now.

Hirsch said it best:

"sanity is highly overrated anyway"

Nightfall, glad your enjoying your new amp. I had a feeling you would. Oh yeah, Deciding on products the level of the Cary are the Sane choices.

Mazel tov!!! Truly hope you enjoy the new amp. It's GORGEOUS!!!

Plus, I'd definately second (or third???) the notion that you actually probably SAVED money by jumping in with both feet rather than going through the usual iterative upgrade cycle.

BTW: if you need additional suggestions for Ramen/Mac N Cheese enhancement tips, lemme know.

Can *ANY* Cary have a good H/P out put on (by their factory, for example?). I am considering buying an SLP-98P preamplifier. It is a pre, so no power tubes, only preamp tubes, but many people have had H/P outs put on their similar Cary preamps.

I'm wondering if their factory service dept. will do this for any amp that they make. I know, I will be calling Cary in the morning, but I am impatient for an answer, as it will probably clinch my decision.

Thanks.

I know of someone (Audio Addict) who had an AES (which I think is owned by Cary) put a headphone jack on his amp. He might be able to answer your question.

Well, after more listening tonight, after fifty hours burn in, what I am noticing most, besides the amps exceptional sound quality, is that my source needs to be upgraded NOW! Its limitations have become more than obvious. Its a cruel (audio) world out there! <g>
More to follow. I may have to turn to crime to keep this up!
