OK guys - these are just my opinion .

I started at headfi last january 2003 .
been talking to a lot of people to get tips on how to go about this hobby . one conversation with tigger gave me a good lesson - the only way to know the right gear is to try it out and hear it.

after a lot of headphones( senn hd575, sony v6, akg k501, beyer 770pro, w1000, cd3000 , grado HP-1 ) and amps(cmoy, meta42, gilmoreV2, melos sha-1 )
I think im finally done .

It would be the melos SHA-1 and the HP-1 in the end.(although ill also keep the cd3000)

I got lucky and was able to buy and own a grado HP-1. i recently sold my vehicle as i am not using it anymore and in the process after i got paid - i had some spare money and took the dive to get the grado HP-1.

i was really not thinking of keeping this one - i was only to try it out and sell it later .

Of all the headphones i owned - the HP-1 seem to sound right on every cd i throw at it . the most noticeable traits are the
--vocals which sound so real like coming from a room where the person is singing.
--the detail is superb, i hear a lot on these cans that you wont normally hear on others
--very accurate sound
--everything (low , mid , highs)seem so natural and without color
--soundstage is tremendous but i feel the cd3000 has a wider stage but the HP-1 has a deeper and higher .
-- the bass is tight and fast which i would describe just about the right amount . the cd3000 again has more extension but a bit looser.

now i have changed my mind- i wont let this one go unless i have an emergency and needed the money.
my 2nd favorite cans are the sony cd3000 and i dont think ill let go of it either coz they are so much fun to listen to.

as they say about cars - there are the luxury cars(HP-1) like the lexus - they ride smooth and refined , but there is also the miata(cd3000) which is so small and cheaper but it is fun to drive.

tnx to all the peeps who helped and gave me advice.
i dont think i can upgrade anymore for now coz to upgrade from what i have right now - would be very expensive i think.

BTW i am not done with my source - i have a rega planet 2000 coming (currently using a sony sacd/redbook player) and i hope it do justice the melos and the HP-1 .

I'm so jealous.

But the CD3000's are only Miatas? Damn I was hoping they were better. Guess that makes my SR-80's a Schwinn.

Thanks for the to-the-point gushing

The current Grado range (that I've had) is overall very disappointing to me after the initial Discovery Of Dynamics phase... No real audiophile credentials, just a high end DJ phone like sound. My next step up will be the R10 and probably electrostatic, but I might keep an eye open for one of these.

Hmm, I don't quite understand the criticism either? He received the headphones...decided to give an opinion, and that is self-serving? I may be quite off base here...but when anyone buys a new product and shares their impressions be they horrible or great, we usually thank them for the impressions and move on. Why so different now?

HP-1000's are hard to find...but much easier to find than used R10's. R10's are still in production but few will spend retail for them. HP-1000's are being concentrated in the Head-fi community. Folks all over the world are picking up on this fact and this is apparent by the nearly weekly hp-1000 auctions on ebay. I don't think reviewing them is self-serving at all. A newbie comes along...reads about these or any other headphone and is curious. Comes across a new impression...thinks to him/herself...this guy has only been around since January, that's fairly newbie...and see's the quick upgrade to the HP-1000's. This person sees an auction and decides to take the plunge.

Reviews may be poorly written, completely polar to one's own personal impressions, but they are never wrong. They are subjective. And self-serving? Is he trying to sell them? No. He mentioned in his review how he loves them.

Cut the guy some slack.
