Hi Guys,

After 2 years on SE with my Campfire Andromeda's, I think I'm ready to take it up a notch and I'd possibly be looking at upgrading my Andromeda with an after market cable (preferably without memory wire as I often fight with the stock cable) and a source component.

1. Cable

In terms of after market cable I'd be looking for something that brings out the best in the Andromeda for mainly relaxing music like (acoustic / folk / Jazz / Classic / Soul / Blues / Ballads / Singer-Song-Writers) and Rock / Metal music. I listen some EDM too but that's not my main focus either way and I don't think any cable will ruin that :)
I would just prefer a light but durable cable that doesn't have this heavy memory wire thing that I fight with when putting my IEM in everytime. I think I'd much prefer the cable without the memory wire but I'm too afraid (read not the handy type of guy) to remove it.

2. Source

In terms of source component I'm more in a pickle.
For source I mostly use Spotify in extreme quality.
I've tried A/B testing but I think fairly often I don't get it right in terms of blind testing Spotify Extreme vs Tidal lossless for example.

For source I'm interested in:
- Either getting a DAP that supports spotify and pairs really well with a low noise floor (no hissing please). Preferably thus with a balanced cable as I've read on several posts that a balanced cable really brings out the best.

- Or a portable DAC/AMP that can handle a balanced cable and maybe adds some convenience. Here one of my contenders is to replace my current IFI Micro IDSD Black Label with a IFI xDsD as I would be able to stream music via bluetooth Aptx-hd to the dac/amp and connect a balanced cable to it / Andromeda's.

Anyone got any suggestions for me to take a next step in my audio journey? :)

Thanks in advance

An Andromeda upgrade is going to be really hard to find, especially with your genres. I'd maybe look into the Noble Audio offerings, ex: K10, Encore as their house sound has a really nice acoustic sound.

Me siento un poco darkness in the combo wm1a and andromeda s. I see the people upgrade andro with others ALOs, but I want other options, maybe Han sound or wait fot a toxic cable? Options in pure silver ?

[/ QUOTE]

Regarding source:
I have ther Chord Mojo, which I pair with a HiBy R3 for offline listening and with the iPhone or iPad for streaming Tidal lossless.
Sound wise I absolutely love the smooth, detailed, musical and adaptive quality with deep and layered soundstage.
Separation is also excellent, especially in busy passages.
Mojo has a single ended output which is cleaner and more powerful than most balanced outputs.
(I also like the dual outputs for A/B iing of headphones)
The Mojo has an impedance of I think around 0,1 Ohms, which is excellent but the Andromeda is so sensitive to impedance that I read it's advised to use an IFI IE-match with it to briing the impedance to about 1 ohm. Please verify.
In general, for the Andromeda the impedance of the amp will be important.

I recently bought a Sony NW ZX2 to have a DAP with Tidal support and hoping to have equal SQ, but despite the MSRP of $1200 I find the Mojo to be better at less than half the price.

A DAP that got good reviews and has good steraming support would be the HiBy R6 PRO.
(The non-pro version has a too high impedance for the Andromeda!)

Hope that helps.

In the meanwhile I use a SP1000M with either Campfire Cascade or Westone ES30.

That Cascade is my endgame though.
It might not be the most factual representation but it sounds so damn fun and addictive. :)

With that kind of budget you can also try the Sony IER-Z1R
That one sounds A-M-A-Z-I-N-G if you are after a fun and addictive signature.

I don't believe you can do much better than the iFi Micro iDSD BL. It's an excellent source.
For a DAP to pair with them with minimum hiss I recommend AK daps such as SP1000, SP1000M or SE100 depending on your budget.
Have you tried custom fit tips? They will change the sound more than any cable IMO.
