Yes, the PCSTEP's DAC is OTG-compatible (and sounds terrific), so the ODAC isn't required.. but I've got a QUICKSTEP (which has no DAC) on the way; which'll seamlessly drop into this setup.  My rig should become even neater since this hub & OTG cable replacement is coming, as well.
 
 
The reason I'm using a hub between the ODAC & S3 is cause the S3 returns that (dreaded) "..high powered device connected.." error when the ODAC is connected directly to it via OTG.  For some reason, using a hub (that doesn't even have to be powered) as an intermediary solves this problem (thankfully, a simple, inexpensive solution).

The HifiMeDiy Sabre should work with the Galaxy S4 using the USB Audio Recorder PRO app, available on Google Play store. There is a free trial version.

(I've had to unplug and replug a few times when the Android OS looked askance at me, but I don't recall getting that specific message). I'm using the US variant, as I'm assuming you are in Washington. I've got the Verizon version, you?

@Theogenes.. yep, the PCSTEP's internal DAC works just fine with my (Verizon) S3 w/o a hub.  It's the ODAC that needs the hub.
 
@rckyosho & DanBa.. you both seem to be using an international (non-US) Galaxy S3?  I got the sense the different processor/internals might be why the ODAC works (w/o the hub) for you guys... but I'm not sure.  I haven't been able to test my S3 with a different ODAC, either (to see if something is faulty with mine.. I doubt it though.. as it's always worked just fine in terms of 'sound'/connectivity).

QUESTION; is there on earth at least ONE Android phone (or tablet) with OPTICAL audio out ?   This will really open many DAC compatibility opportunity....

Can you use volume control on your Xperia Z ???? , damn I love the dragonfly so much but I decide to end up with another one because I heard someone can't use volume control on their galaxy note 2 and s3 ???

It's so sad that the FiiO E17 works with S4 (confirmed by XDA members here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41229169&postcount=12)
but not the E07K which was working with S3. (confirmed and used by myself)
Both the 9500 3g and the 9505 4g doesnt work with the e07k,
Having the same situation that playing music will quickly fast forward with no sound output.
the 9500 even worse that once i plugged in the e07k it starts to crash the system. (maybe because it cannot output audio properly?)
However it's working with USB Audio Recorder if you stop the system outputting audio signal (mute) BEFORE you launch the app.
hope somebody can fix it :frown:

HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 both work with Leckerton UHA-6S.MKII via USB-OTG straight out of the box. I got the One first then returned for the S4. This is AT&T version to be specific.
