Hello,

Has anyone had any experience trying this Lindy DAC/Amp? Tempted to buy and try it out, if worse comes to worse i can always send it back or use it for my PC instead

I apologize if this question has already been answered elsewhere but I haven't been able to find it after considerable searching.

I have a Galaxy Note I (SGH-I717D) and a Leckerton UHA-6S.MKII.  I understand that the Note is not capable of sending USB-Audio under ICS.  I have read that Jelly Bean supports USB-Audio but there is some doubt as to whether the Note's version of Jelly Bean will support USB-Audio.  Does anyone here know for certain whether Jelly Bean on Note will support USB-Audio such that I will be able to use my UHA-6S.MKII's DAC directly, bypassing the Yamaha DAC that is on-board my Note?  I know that some parts of the world, and some ROM users are already running Jelly Bean on their Note(s); could anyone here verify whether USB-Audio is working or not?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Regards,

Hi BriX,

The samsung s1, s2 and note 1 have a big problem with DAC support, the general consensus is the USB interface is blocked for DAC support although there could be another reason, the USB recorder pro developer mentions on the google play that s1,s2 and note 1 don't work and if he/she cant get in to work then I doubt it ever will.

And I suppose that this issue occurred under Jelly Bean as well, then?

Thanks for your response.

I don't think it matters if it android 4.0 or jellybean, I think its probably a hardware issue otherwise someone compiling up a kernel/modules over on XDA would have cracked it by now, google seem to be letting android device manufacturers add in USB DAC support which what samsung did for the s3 and note 2 and probably the s4 will have USB DAC support, it really seems like a hardware issue more than a software one although it can vary between different devices.

At the announcement of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in June 2012, Google introduced a new type of USB DAC operating as USB host, that can’t interwork with PC or Mac also operating as USB host.

No Jelly Bean-announced USB DAC is available for the time being.

Probably like the Galaxy S2, the Galaxy Note doesn’t have a complete USB host feature, so that a USB audio driver, or a USB audio soft driver like USB Audio Recorder PRO can’t use the necessary USB service to drive a USB DAC.

Are you sure of your USB OTG adapter cable?

You can test your USB OTG cable with a simpler USB peripheral like a USB mouse.

If the Xperia Z still can’t work with the ESI DR. DAC nano, you could test it with the USB Audio Recorder PRO, available on Google Play Store?
There is a trial version.

Hi,
I connected the Galaxy SIII to my CA Dacmagic Plus and it works only when using USB Audio Recorder Pro. It doesn't work with Folder Play or any other player app. Also developers stating that USB Audio Recorder Pro is much more for recording instead of playing music collections. Do you see any other opprrtunity for using a similar driver Audio Recorder is using but having a more user frendly app for playing music?

I think you / we should encourage the USB Audio Recorder PRO development team and other music player development teams to embrace the USB audio service framework:
. develop the USB audio service at the user space level
. develop additional interface between music player and USB audio service

USB Audio Recorder PRO:
"Ok, so here is what I think I can do if I understand the Android docs correctly: make a Service that other apps (music players) can 'bind' to, which means they should be able to stream their decoded audio to my 'USB audio service' and the service will then output it to the USB audio device."
http://www.head-fi.org/t/595071/android-phones-and-usb-dacs/1305#post_9034501

Neutron music player:
"If some generalized audio output API is provided by developer of USB Audio Recorder Pro then it would be great and Neutron would support it as one of additional output drivers. In the future it also worth trying to develop own USB soft-driver too"
http://neutronmp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=314&sid=9f141f74398200e620f59f94599266d3&start=70

Poweramp music player:
"As we decode everything in PCM internally, we can actually stream that PCM to anywhere, though currently it's only the AudioTrack (or OpenSL/disk writter used internally), thus, if such service would exists, I think audio routing implementation to it is quite possible."
http://forum.powerampapp.com/index.php?/topic/4212-usb-audio-out-for-galaxy-phones-s3note2/page__p__16876#entry16876

By the way, I use your witness on Galaxy S3 – Dacmagic Plus interworking to require Samsung developers to improve their USB audio implementation.

The usb otg cable works with my pc keyboard pluged in and a micro sd adaptator so i think it's a good one but when i check your link i think it's a micro B usb not a micro A, is it a bad thing  ? http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0077QLMHA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

With audio recorder pro i get this message "error failed to initialize USB device" saying those device may be incompatible.. :s
And i have a red alert in my notification bar when i plug the dac," usb devices disabled" because of a to high power consumption.

I think i will have to send it back unfortunatly..unless there is anything else to try?

Do you know if the hrt microstreamer is able to work with other device than note 2 or S3?

Your cable is OK because it can connect a USB OTG capable Xperia Z acting as a USB host (i.e. a A-device) to a USB keyboard or a USB adaptor for micro SD card always acting as USB peripheral (i.e. B-device).

The description of the cable is faulty because a B-device can’t interwork with another B-device.
USB is a master-slave communication bus: USB communication can only take place between a master device (i.e. a A-device) and a slave device (i.e. B-device).

You may try inserting a small AC or battery powered USB hub between the Xperia Z and the DAC.
In this case, the Xperia Z doesn’t have to supply power to the DAC.

Sorry, I don’t know.
If you are not adventurous, you could get one of the DAC reportedly interworking with Xperia Z mentioned on the following thread:

thanks for your answer,
i will check this interesting thread, i think hrt should think to build a new product, microsteamer with its own battery :D.
I bought a knew otg cable micro A to mini B, from lindy.i WIll try and if doesn't work i will send the dr dac nano back.

edit :
i bought this cable and receive it http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B003RF70WG/ref=pe_205631_30430471_M3_dp_1
unfortunately it doesn't' work, just notice it's not otg, already mentionned on the page 83 of this thread :

"DanBa, I just had a nice chat with the rep at Lindy USA. He pointed out that the Lindy.fr cable we discuss above, while visually perfect, inside does not tie pins 4 and 5 together on the micro-USB end. And thus would not work for USB OTG. Those pins, as you show above, need to be tied together on the host end (and only on the host end). As far as we can tell, while we can draw a schematic for our desired micro-A-OTG to standard B (male to male), we haven't found them yet on this third rock from the sun. "

so for know there is no micro a to mini b otg cable ?

are you on stock have updated to the latest jelly bean ? since if I remember correctly the USB audio out is a new feature , and you have to be jellybean to do it , and Cynanogen removed that feature in their roms

also Fiio E17 works with USB audio recorder pro (not plug and play )

Stock 4.2.2. Yeah, I know that I need USB audio recorder pro. They killed USB otg on Nexus 4, but if mentioned combo is working, it's enough for me. Because, I'll be using e17 with my MBA also.

Thanks!

A Japanese article on USB Audio Recorder PRO:
http://vaiopocket.seesaa.net/category/13805095-1.html

stock Nexus 7 using USB Audio Recorder PRO >> AudioQuest DragonFly

stock Nexus 7 using USB Audio Recorder PRO >> xDuoo XD-01

stock Nexus 7 using USB Audio Recorder PRO >> Wavelength Proton

As far as I am concerned, the USB Audio Recorder PRO player is perfect if a shuffle play mode is added:
. Actual "one after another" play mode: N = N + 1
. Shuffle play mode: N = N + random number
(random positive or negative number)
