I want to give someone at HTC a huge wet mouth kiss for implementing USB audio drivers.  They've been making brilliant phones over the past year.  Now audiophiles can enjoy them too.
 
If only they'd make a J Butterfly with a larger & easily removable battery...

Definitely works. Although its not particularly pliable, just twist a loop into it and get some small zip ties and clip them in, then add another zip tie to flatten the loop and you have yourself a relatively low-profile cable.

Basically what I did with a simple twist-tie.
 
EDIT: Just noticed your avatar. Ouch. As a doctor I recognise cotton buds as the root of many evils where the ear is concerned.

Very happy aboutt his development too, since it was starting to look like I would be locked into Samsung handsets for that feature. Also the Butterfly has a micro SD slot, unlike their 2012 high-end phones, which is hopefully a sign of their broader intentions in 2013 (and another thing it was starting to look like only Samsung would give me). Choice is good

This has been fascinating thread but l got lost around page 57. Can anybody please post an abstract on the conclusions regarding android possible dac bypass with the new 4.1 jelly bean? Will this be possible in the end using the micro usb out on modern phones like sony xperia s or the like. Thanks for the update and debreif fellas.

Perchance to dream... although his caveat of "[p]roviding you can get hold of a kernel with the USB audio drivers compiled in" doesn't sound super promising. (Unless there's something I'm missing, which is entirely possible. Hell, probable even.)
 
EDIT: Okay, actually did more reading than skimming this time (

) and I think I get what's awesome about this: it would allow the use of an external USB DAC w/ CM 10.1? If that's the case, then YES, I will be VERY happy!!! 
 
Can't wait until somebody finally gets full support for all USB DACs up and running on the S3... And everything else, while I'm dreaming

Hahah,  I'm downloading Ubuntu right now to try and learn how to kernel hack so I can add USB drivers!

I'm pretty sure it's not just as easy as that.  But it can't hurt to learn a bit about the process.
Ktoonsez on XDA still says he's going to try and look into it soon.  He's a kernel dev.

Regarding the interworking with standard USB DAC compatible with PC / Mac / Android device, there is no difference between a stock Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a stock Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
 
The Sony Xperia S using the USB Audio Recorder PRO app can interwork with standard USB DAC.

Great now i know a doctor that I can talk to anonymously about some of my more concerning symptoms Woot!

Hey guys, I got a bit of a problem, This otg cable came in today http://www.ebay.com/itm/251211470827?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 , and I plugged my fiio e07k into my galaxy s3, and it worked instantly. Music played out the fiio,. I remove the fiio and use my phone like normal.. just right now in bed, I decide to plug the fiio in to listen before I got to bed.. as I plug in the cable, the phone shuts off!!! I can't get it back on, pulled the battery, removed the micro usb cable, tried the charger cable, nothing! Any ideas? Im bumming out right now, as I rely on the phone for contacts.

I think i know why, i activated fast charge earlier today... that might have killed it =( 
sucks because I currently have no job, and was relying on the phone on my applications.

Oh, that might be a problem. I'd try factory resetting first, if its a software fault that should fix it... If not DanBa better add a warning about that to his list of confirmed devices. I hope a reset fixes it
