So even the S3 can benefit from this?

It's very perfectible for the time being.

Wow, excellent news! I'll be sure to try it out in a few mins and will report back with results. Thanks for the update.:)

Update: No luck here with an Audio GD - Sparrow TE7022. I will give it a try another time. :frowning2:

Awesome! Been testing this one in beta - can use USB microphones to record audio too (tried it with my Guitar Hero Logitech one and it works!). Hopefully this will let USB DACs work with more Android devices. Sadly the HeadAmp Pico still doesn't work with the Note 2/S3, but hopefully an update might fix that once I send through the logs...

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Behringer UCA202 which are both listed as "supported devices" on that webpage.
I don't have a USB microphone to test with though.

Sure would be awesome if this could be "wrangled" to somehow let us take phone calls and talk over USB microphone.
My car is totally waiting for a hands-free calling solution that works when I'm using my USB-OTG cable.

I've tried searching the thread but couldn't find this.. has there been a list of what Galaxy S3 ROMs/kernels support USB audio out?  I'm interested in the US-based Galaxy S3 (SCH-i535) since that's what I have.

All Samsung based ROM's for North American S3's will support USB Audio out to DAC.  This includes 99.9% of custom ROM's based on the Samsung TouchWiz ROM.

However, there are currently not any AOSP based ROM's that support USB Audio.  This means CyanogemMOD and AOKP (and similar) ROM's will not work for us.  :frowning2:

Please everyone, post on CyanogenMOD's facebook page to ask them to add "Digital USB Audio" back into their ROM's!!!  :)

This guy (Jack Norris) is trying to get Digital USB Audio working on CyanogenMOD 10 for the Google Nexus:

See a copy/past of his post below:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CM10 USB Audio Support

I originally started looking into this as part of my Nexus 7 car project. Rebooting just to get USB audio working conflicted with my goal of being able to "dock and forget". It took a bit of experimenting and debugging but it's finally working
wink.gif

These patches will enable full USB audio support on the Nexus 7. That includes USB audio hotplug support (no rebooting), it also allows the internal microphone to operate properly while connected. As long as you have a standard USB AUDIO CLASS compliant device then you should have no problems.

Kernel - wifi model only -- Source: git.io/srlGrg
The Nexus 7 must be running a kernel with USB audio support (or have the modules loaded separately). I have attached a stock CM10 kernel with USB audio built in but you can use any kernel compiled with USB audio support, Trinity and Poitee spring to mind. This kernel will only work with wifi models.

Services -- Source: git.io/214n3w
The WiredAccessoryObserver class (frameworks/base) has been modified to detect ALSA uevent's and pass the required details to the audio policy manager which then switches the output to the USB audio device.

Volume Control -- Source: git.io/HHh8TQ
Android does not allow you to control the music stream volume while attached to a digital output device such as a USB sound card / DAC, it is either mute or full volume. While this may not be an issue for those of you who have audio controls built into your USB devices, there are some that do not. Applying this patch will allow you to change the volume the same way as with a normal pair of headphones.
I have attached flashable zips for those of you who don't want to recompile sources. They have been tested against the 2012-12-04 CM10 nightly, they may work with other ROMs but I have only tested CM10. If not then the source patches could easily be applied to the source tree of most ROMs.
If all goes well and further testing doesn't show any issues I might try and submit patches AOSP/CyanogenMod.

Please let me know if you have any issues and I will do my best to resolve them.

Just wanted to share, that there is a great progress in bypassing the android limitation of 48/16....

If by "popular belief" you mean Google's own design spec?  I mean, just because most usb devices don't send the necessary commands, doesn't mean you can't do it. Whatever the app is doing would likely be doable with SQLLite, I need to get a cable to get that figured out. There are just a couple switches you need to hit.

The 24-bit claim is interesting, but I will believe it when I see it.

EDIT: Alright, found a cable that should work on Amazon for 72 cents. I am pretty confident I can get this working on my Droid Bionic without an app.

The text, surrounded by the quotation marks (i.e. a citation) is not mine.
It is written by someone from Xtream Software Development.

I’d rather use "standard USB audio", "Android-specific USB audio":

Thanks! I think you should notify your findings to Xtream Software Development so that they can update their list of working Android devices and their list of working audio devices.

Good news for FiiO E17 owners : the Galaxy S3 with USB Audio Recorder PRO interworks with the FiiO E17 USB DAC/amp

music stored on Galaxy S3 > USB Audio Recorder PRO player > digital USB audio out >> "USB OTG" cable >> FiiO E17 >> headphones

Oh, I know you didn't write it, but I think that some of their claims are just a little inaccurate. I am looking forward to digging in to this a bit.
