Samsung S5 or a Note 5?

Dual port? Don't get it. Pics?

I have a Samsung 5 which has one single end cable that has a combined dual port, one for Charging (USB Micro B) other for Data (Micro HDMI), the other end is the standard USB A that I attach into adapter plug for electric source.

From reading a few threads here it appears I need to use a OTG Micro B to Mini B to attach to a RSA Intruder. That forces the phone to be the driving end of the USB stream, and not the receiving end.

1) Since my phone has combined dual port one data the other micro b , do I just plug the OTG micro B into the micro B of the combined dual port of the Samsung and the mini B into the RSA Intruder

2) How important is that the OTG has to be at the Micro B end and not at the Mini B end, or will it work if its at either end.

3) I only have been able to find a 8'' OTG Micro B to Mini B, https://www.cdw.com/shop/products/StarTech.com-8in-USB-OTG-Cable-Micro-USB-to-Mini-USB-M-M/3955058.aspx?pfm=srh however I want one that's only about 4 1/2" or 5'' Can someone point me to that size.

Maybe someone has been down this road Thx

I use a cable like that with my Galaxy S5 and D14 DAC/Amp.The port on the S5 is a USB 3 micro but the normal USB Micro works for both charging and data.

The USB Micro end needs to be set up for OTG, the USB mini end can just be a standard connector (not OTG).

I just bought a phone with only a USB-C port on it. I already own quite a few DACs. Waiting for it to arrive so I can play around. If things go as I think, I'll be able be able to use my DACs to listen to music. They did work with a previous phone, but they sucked the battery life out of them. Both the Apogee Groove and FiiO E17K worked with an OTG cable with previous phones and I expect this phone to do the same, with the appropriate cable. The next step is to find a quality DAC that also uses the microphone so I can make calls. . .

Probably not going to find a quality one.

Does that fit?

If so, you have a USB 3.0 Micro-B port. Any USB Micro-B cable will work, the extra 4 pins from the 3.0 Micro-B port are only used for USB 3.0 connections. If it fits, please do some research for your own information on USB 3.0 Micro-B form factor.

The S5 definitely has USB 3 micro but a standard USB Micro OTG cable works. I don't think the person at the Verizon store knew what they were talking about. Not sure why Samsung decided to use USB 3 Micro on the S5 and then move back to the standard USB Micro.

The S5 has USB 3 micro.

The newer S5 Neo does not.

Edit: I think you were saying that as well.

Yes that would be correct the s5 has a single end that has 2 ports one for data and the other port  for charging which is a usb micro B., I was told at the Verizon store. . The other end is a standard USB A that plugs to an adapter which plugs into the electric socket

So the question is am I just plugging in the USB Micro b  OTG in to the micro port of the the dual slot, that would leave the data slot empty.

Sounds like you may have answered one of my questions, that the Micro B end needs to be the OTG, not the Mini B end...Correct

Yes that's the exact cable, so it's called a USB 3.0 Micro. believe me I tried to research it yesterday, to find out what it was called.  Its when I went to Verizon, all they said it was a proprietary connection that Samsung did a way with and that it was only used for the S5 .. They just explained one port was for charging and the other port is for data.

Ok, so I think I now understand, that dual port is called a USB 3.0 Micro, and a USB Micro B will fit into the one single port of the dual port.. The data port the second of the two ports,or as you call it, the xtra 4 pins, Verizon called it a micro HDMI data port .

@SEABREEZE - I would always go with the OTG connector at the phone end simply because that's the way I've always done it so I know it works.

Roger that , thanks westOne .. In my research yesterday  a regular USB Micro B will not work, because it brings the signal into the phone, where as the OTG takes it out That's why one is called a USB Micro B, and the other is called a USB Micro B OTG.. A bit confusion for a novice like myself trying to understand all of this

Onto another question anyone using the

USB Audio Player PRO with there android, what are your experiences

eXtream Software Development Music & Audio

High quality media player supporting USB audio DACs up to 32-bit resolution and any sample rate! Will play any popular format including wav, flac, mp3 and DSD. This app is a must-have for every HiFi enthusiast, bypassing all audio limits of Android. Without a USB DAC, the app is still one of the highest quality media players around. Note that you need a USB OTG cable to connect your DAC, any class compliant USB audio device should work.

Features:
• Plays wav/flac/ogg/mp3/DSD/SACD/aiff/aac/m4a/ape/cue/etc. files (even 24-bit or 32-bit).
• Supports a USB audio DAC connected by an OTG cable (if your Android device supports USB host)
• Plays natively up to 32-bit/384kHz or any other rate/resolution your DAC supports by completely bypassing the Android audio system. Other Android players are limited to 16-bit/48kHz, even on Android 5.
• DSD-over-PCM and native DSD playback and DSD-to-PCM conversion if the DAC does not support DSD (.dff/.dsf files)
• Folder playback
• UPnP/DLNA
• UPnP media renderer (stream from Google Music in combination with BubbleUPnP)
• UPnP content server
• Network playback using Samba shares (should work with Windows and NAS)
• Stream audio from Qobuz, Shoutcast (www.shoutcast.com) and Tidal
• Gapless playback
• Bit perfect playback
• Replay gain
• Sample rate conversion (if your DAC doesn't support the audio file's sample rate, it will be converted to a higher sample rate if available or the highest if not available)
• 10-band equalizer (can be turned off)
• No root required, but when your device has root access there is a tweak option that could eliminate audio glitching should you experience it (for example when the screen is off)
• Software and hardware volume control (when applicable)
• Shuffle / repeat

An in-app purchase of 1.99 euro is needed for the advanced parametric EQ from effect vendor ToneBoosters.

Warning: this is not a generic driver, you can only playback from within this app. It is not possible to use your USB audio device using this software with other apps!

Android 5+ users: although Android itself has a driver that supports some USB DACs, it will play in lower resolution, lower volume and will usually perform unnecessary sample rate conversion. You will still need this app to enjoy the highest quality!

Please have a look here for a list of tested devices and more information on how to connect a USB audio device:

UAPP is the best DAC android player software there is IMO. Been using it for years now.

Agree. This is what I use for my out & about rig with my Z5compact/DFR/SE846's

When my Hugo 2 arrives it will also be fed via Z5 compact & UAPP (or another Android phone with UAPP).
