Android phones and USB DACs

I'm confused.  I got that email in my gmail account too.  Does that mean they're adding USB Audio support by patching Android 4.4.x/4.5.x or do they consider the new Android L (aka Android 5.x) as the patch?  For some of the older phones like my Galaxy S3 I don't have any hopes of Samsung releasing Android L for it.  I considerate it fortunate that I even got 4.4.2 since none of the HTC, LG, Sony, Motorola phones released around the same time (early/mid 2012) even got 4.4.

I do think it will be only for the new Android release, but I hope I am mistaken.

All it means is that the request has been fulfilled and will be patched in the next source code.

The Google Android Audio team is aware of the existence of the list of USB DAC reportedly interworking or not interworking with the Nexus 5 / 7 running on Android L: I contacted one of them

I think "dmesg" and " logcat" log files in case of non-interworking should also be provided.
These log files will help them to identify the interworking problems.

Knowing the descriptors of the currently non-compatible USB DAC can also speed the development of a code fix.

FINALLY!

And thanks to all who made it possible, specially DanBa (which made me aware of the USB Audio cappabilities of Android devices by reading his list of standard USB DACs...)

If you could do that it would be very much appreciated!

Hi mate,

I tried the AK100 II as DAC on my Galaxy S5 ... No Go!

The AK100 is not recognized by the Galaxy S5 in any way.
I tried with USB Audio Tester, it does not even see the AK100 II, so .... sorry to say, No Go as an Android DAC.
On PC there is a driver needed, so I suppose that on Android some custom software would be needed as well.

PS: Sound of the AK100 II is fantastic.

Have a great day,

Well-praised review of "Resonessence Herus + Dell Venue 7 / HTC One + USB Audio Player PRO (UAPP)":

"... audiophile playback ... the sound quality via the tablet was as good through the Herus as the Macbook Pro and Audirvana playback, Clean, quiet, smooth and plenty of detail, especially for the money...."

Anyone found a micro B (with OTG) male to mini B male any cheaper than the below?  (I assume this is the type of cord I need to connect DAP to Android with one cord)?

Look for "Fiio L15" OTG cable, should be ~$10USD.  It's not a fancy hand made cable using Fairy Dust(tm) enchanted wires but it works on my E07k/E17 & Galaxy S3 & N7-2013(CM11).

I recently got the Vivo Xplay 3S with the ESS9018KM2 and OPA2604 built in. It also has DTS-X headphone in the video player. Yes, it sounds amazing, better than any other DAC/AMP combo I've tried so far.

I extracted the DTS, video, and music app. See if you can install these, or install them with root explorer to the /system/app folder.

If it works, everyone can use DTS-X for movies, or BBE/SRS for audio.

No dice on Moto G.

DTS service FC loop and the other apps aren't in the app drawer.
