I've owned several fiio products and I've hated them all (a few amps, iem cable etc). Cheap and tacky Chinese stuff. Dunno why they're so popular. I guess if I want analogue volume control with my hrt microstreamer I can use a volume adapter with my headphones but I still think it'd be dangerous due to the extremely high default volume.

Which amps?

I've handled the IEM cables and they don't feel cheaper than the $30 stock cables my IEM came with. I wouldn't bet on tougher-looking IEM cables that cost ten times these (if not more) to be that much more durable if mishandled anyway, like if a thief unsuccessfully pulls them and runs, or run over by my office chair, and mishandling is something that's bound to happen at some point with gear that you take anywhere if not everywhere.

The Fiio E17 is extremely sturdy and gorgeous looking. Not to mention that it sounds really good!

Maybe their flagship stuff is better. I believe I owned an E5 and an E7 and E11. I can't remember. I demoed them for a couple days and sent them back. I also owned a Nuforce Dac-2 which I sent back. It stopped working after only 3 days (not a knock on fiio as nuforce is unrelated but I guess I am picky).

I have this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/FiiO-RC-SE1-Shure-Replacement-Cable-white/dp/B00DB41AOW and it's really bad. The only thing I prefer about it to the shure cables is that the over-ears part of shure cables is cumbersome and prone to breaking. I was able to buy a shure cable from the US and paid about the same as the fiio cable costs over here. The fiio cable cuts out on the connectors that goto the drivers. The plug on the end also doesn't fit properly in a lot of jacks due to the way it's designed and causes audio to cut out that way as well.

Hi all - I'm new to Android, so forgive me, but is there an equivalent Android micro USB cable with line out to this cable?

http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Audio-30pin-Cable-Iphone/dp/B00490OVM0

I love being able to just plug in my iPhone at work and have it be charging along with a line out going to my Altoids amp and into my Shure 535's. I haven't been able to find the equivalent Android solution, but perhaps I am missing something. I bought a 2013 Nexus 7, and it's definitely been a gateway drug to going full Android!

thanks!

There is no such standard for Android. Some phones like my S3 can get you a line out through a product specific tricked out USB cable. I have such a thing and it stinks of noise. If your phone supports naitive USB audio, I'd get a portable DAC/Amp and call it a day. Or you could double amp, unless your phone's headphone out reeks of noise or is really bad and can't deliver under a light load.

Yep, I'd go the USB audio route too. If you want charging throw in a wireless charging mat since your USB charging port will be occupied.

They are popular because they work and do not cost a months mortgage payment.

They are shoddy though and don't sound very good. They have really good marketing. I will give them that.

Exactly which FiiO products did you have that you thought were shoddy? Which amps or DACs?

Fiio e5, e7, e11, FiiO RC-SE1 cable. They were all totally unusable to me. I listened to them for a second and knew I had to return them because they were crap. I owned the headphone cables for a month and they were also terrible and I'm glad if I could be rid of them. I'll go into detail since you insist.

Bought Fiio headphone cable to replace stock shure cable because one of my over the ear parts cracked and would look stupid if I wore it.

Got Fiio cable. Earbuds cut out after connecting them. Instead of thinking "wow, this is a piece of crap" I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

Damn, these fiio cables are quite stiff and awkward.

Hmm, I'm wondering why my dac is cutting out. My damn dac keeps cutting out randomly and I have no idea why.

I contact the dac company (HRT Microstreamer). "it's not a problem with our dac, have you checked to see if it might be a problem with the plug on your headphones?''

I had no idea. I thought for certain I had a defective HRT Microstreamer. I look and see.

Fiio connect jack is designed in a dumb way. That is what is causing the dac to cut out.

Buy replacement shure cable instead. No problems.

Basically, fiio is cheap pseudo audiophile crap. It is made to seem very convoluted and complicated but it is total crap. I pitty people who are satisfied with fiio products. I don't have anything against them. I am not trying to tarnish their reputation or cause a vendetta or anything but all the Fiio products I ever used were unbearable and I urge people to look elsewhere for much better quality.
