Android phones and USB DACs

I have otg cables for my old HTC phone, but I now use a new HTC 10. Does that require a different cable if I want to connect it to an outside amp/dac? (it uses the USB c cable).

Hello,

I am using USB Audio Player with my CypherLabs Theorem. Is there a way to listen to Pandora with the Theorem? Actually how can I make the Theorem the default device for all music applications?

The best deal on a current phone I can think of is the new moto g4 with the amazon ads on it to lower the price to $150 https://www.amazon.com/Moto-4th-Generation-Exclusive-Lockscreen/dp/B01EZC9WC0/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1476491333&sr=1-1&keywords=moto+g4

There is also a deal for the g3 on logic buy:

Both of these have android 6.0 which I believe has USB audio cooked in now.

I'm waiting for my otg cable, anyone have any experience with the HTC 10? Got it recently, having trouble with Neutron, doesn't seem to work for streaming music on my new phone.

Does anyone here have a Blu HD R1? It has Android 6.0 Marshmallow but I've read conflicting things about whether it supports OTG. I own one but I'm afraid to invest in any sort of portable DAC before I know it will work.

There are OTG checker apps in the app store that will tell you if your device supports USB OTG. Even if it does there is no guarantee that USB audio devices will work properly if at all. If a USB OTG checker indicates that USB OTG works on your device then I would suggest buying a cable (they're really cheap) and then go and visit a HiFi store and actually try the DAC/Amp you want to use with your device.

Checker app said yes, but trying to hook up a portable hard drive via OTG did not work.

That could be a power issue, I suggest plugging a powered USB hub into your OTG cable and then the hard drive into the hub, not all OTG ports will supply the full 0.5A of the full USB spec;  it could also be a software issue in that the software on your device doesn't allow for external storage devices.

Try using a thumb drive in the OTG port and see if that works.
