Custom rom: didn't dwell into this yet. I haven't seen a custom ROM yet that would explicitely address two issues of Xperia Sola: no native USB audio out support and power threshold issue. If I see one, I would definitely try it!

I guess that requirement is not necessary anymore in the latest versions. Anyway, the fact that the app wouldn't install is not true. There is no way to tell Android which resolutions to support: I've got plenty of customers of Audio Evolution Mobile not reading the app's description running low resolutions. Bottom line: just try and see if you can reach all buttons.

I'm new to this whole audio from smartphones over USB thing. I have a Galaxy S3 and an otg micro to female USB cable. I have connected this cable to a male USB to mini cable into a Matrix Mini Portable amp/dac. No music can be heard when I press play. I've tried rebooting the phone while connected as well. I'm obviously missing something here. Can anyone help?

Dear eXtream, I guess it would be too bold for me to argue with an app developer about such app behaviour, but my experience with Sony Xperia Go: the application refused to install from the Google Play, saying "this application version is not compatible with your device" or something like that - unfortunately, I don't remember the exact wording. Sony Xperia Go was freshly updated with official Sony 4.0.4 rom via its official software PC Companion. What in your view could have been the reason? I found the only incompatibility in minimum screen solution, changed Go for Sola, and it all worked. Coincidence?

I am wondering if you have separately tested the different elements of your setup:
Galaxy S3 >> Micro-USB plug to Standard-A receptacle USB OTG cable adapter + Standard-A plug to Mini-B plug USB cable >> Matrix Mini Portable >> headphones

. Galaxy S3 in USB host mode and USB OTG cable adapter:
Galaxy S3 >> USB OTG cable adapter >> USB peripheral like USB mouse or USB keyboard

. USB cable and Matrix Mini Portable:
PC or Mac >> USB cable >> Matrix Mini Portable >> headphones

If you have successfully tested the different elements, then the current native USB Audio of the Galaxy S3 can’t drive the Matrix Mini Portable.
Maybe USB Audio Recorder PRO can.

USB Audio Recorder PRO can drive a lot more of USB DACs than the native USB Audio.

I heard Stoner Acoustics will be announcing the UD110 soon. Should wait until that comes out. It'll be smaller than the UD100, better and at the same price.

Yup! UARP seems to support a lot of the android phones

What I'm looking now is native support thou, as my song library consist of many file types like flac, ape, alac, mp3 and so on, which aren't supported by UARP for some. I come from the apple/iTunes side, and converting them are out of question for me. Really looking forward to eXtream creating the low level service for USB audio.

Hummer, after further reading yesterday, I noticed that custom ROMs don't provide custom USB audio drivers for most Android devices. My mistake. Sorry about the wrong information. So far I only came across a custom ROM for Nexus 7 which supports native USB audio. Not sure if it's working thou, but if there's anyone interested, you can check it out -> http://mehrvarz.github.io/nexus-7-usbrom/

I will repost this one more time and be done. I asked a couple of days ago, : Will an Xperia TL>OTG> DAC amp, be better than my Clip Zip as a source for my E12>Modified T50RPs, FLAC Rips. First off, I appreciate all the work Danba, et all , have done to advance this technololgy. The BIG if here is most of us will use this to listen to Flac,CD rips, or MP3 crap. I am sure there will be Audiophiles who jump in and say, ME! I do have a few 96/26 HD Tracks downloads, and love them, however I am no way going to go back and spend $18 per album to upgrade some of my stuff. Reality check: I repeat myself: Will an Xperia TL>OTG>DAC amp be a better source than my Clip Zip, simple question?

IMO, there is no way someone else could answer this question for you. We don't know your music tastes, your music quality requirements, etc.

Create a test album best reflecting your music preferences, make a trip to a good portable audio store, and listen to a couple of portable DAC/amps. And you'll have the best answer
