Analog Dongle Amplifier?

Looking for the smallest device to amplify an analog signal. Something that looks like this but dirt cheap

Any suggestions?

Something like this cannot exist, in order to amplify signal, you need power aside from the signal you want to amplify. If this thing doesn't have a battery or power source, where does it gets the power to make the in coming signal louder?
