Ahoi,

we, a group of 25 people from Hifi-Forum.de, habe been invited by Sennheiser to have a sight seeing tour this friday at the Sennheiser factory
wink.gif
Here is the thread that started it: http://www.hifi-forum.de/index.php?a...10&thread=9922

In addition to that there will be a round table with the HD800 developers! Right now we are collecting a few questions for Sennheiser. This is the corresponding thread: http://www.hifi-forum.de/index.php?a...968&postID=1#1

Sennheiser will then have a look at those questions and decide which questions can be answered. So, please, if there's something you ever wanted to know about the HD800: Here's the chance to have your answer!

I'll just copy your answers to the other thread and will do my best in translating them...

Just for clarification. The questions are not meant for the round table but for an interview session which will be recorded seperately. It was meant as a chance for those who can not attend. Language will be German. In case of high interest here at head fi we have to find a way how to translate the stuff.
I will upload the files after Sennheiser approval.

I guess my question would be:"Why Sennheiser do not build matched amp for HD800, like they did for HE90?" Me, would like to have balanced, running on valves

Oops, I guess, I should pay a bit more attention while reading the next time

But anyway: Depending on the length, I am willing to translate at least some parts.

ask if they're planning on a new electrostat. And if they'll ever sell more amps for their headphones. Or atleast give recommendations. They sell alot of high priced stuff in need of amps, but dont really give any information that they do.

The electrostatic/Orpheus question is allready on the list.
Regarding amps, they usually recommend Lehmann amps.

Yeah, but back in the days they paired their top-end headphone with their own dedicated headphone amplifier. Think HEV90 for the HE90 (Orpheus).
Would be interesting to know if they have something similar planned for the future. Either for the HD800 or a future headphone...

Sorry, what is a non-filthy rich headphone lover?

To give a short update on the questions asked so far here is the German version of the questions plus a non corrected Google translation version (sorry, lacking the time). A better version will be provided after the event when it becomes clear what kind of questions where answered.

Deutsche Interview FragenAllgemeine Fragen

rpnfan

George
Wieviel "Made in Germany" steckt im HD800? Nur Montage und Kapseln? Oder auch Mechanik?

Matzio

rpnfan
Warum sind Sennheiser-Ersatzteile so teuer?

Comox

English Questions (Google translation)
General Questions

rpnfan
How is it ensured during the years of production that a headphone remains its same sound. Say, 'how to perform the quality control?

rpnfan
Which methods does Sennheiser use to measure the quality of the sound, which is, by definition, always a subjective thing. Can one point to diploma / doctoral theses on the subject or something similar?

rpnfan
What are the numbers of volunteers for listening tests are believed to be at least necessary? What conditions are considered (for what purpose) as a good test condition? What type of scales are used for the tests? As the tests are analyzed statistically? For which parameters can be assumed an independence and how to find the shares of the influence of parameters on the overall sound?

rpnfan
What type of customer Sennheiser has a in the head when it starts to develop a headphone? Are there "standard Sennheiser customers," or if we start from very different needs of different target groups? For example Bumsbass for cheap in-ears for the iPod generation, and rather more neutral sound in the upscale segment?

rpnfan
Which KH volume to be optimized at Sennheiser, or how to go to the different sense of hearing at different volume levels?

rpnfan
Sennheiser What keeps the idea of a tunable KH? As we have stated, yes, but the pads do a great deal of the sound. If, on Konstuktion aware of parts (eg, different schedules damping elements), one could be tuned to different tastes in KH, as it exists at In-Ears already.

rpnfan
KHV: What does Sennheiser to KHV in general and specifically for the output impedance that they "expect" or suggest?

MacFrank
Serves the Sennheiser at the development of KH as the HD800 in some cases the experience of developers and technicians from Neumann? If in any case "collective research" there, or whether research is done in parallel. (In addition, what about the other brands such as Sennheiser HHB, Klein-Hummel and K-array)

Specific HD 600/650 questions

MacFrank
There are 2 different sounding versions of the HD650 and HD600, or not? there are opinions that both listeners an "old model" exists, and a newer version, is intended to sound a little bit brighter. There were probably times a color change of the acoustic material in the HD600, which hung along with them?

Similar Asked by Gr @ vity
I would be interested to know whether Sennheiser HD650 has made in its place during the production period phonetic changes / improvements.

Specific HD 800 Questions

ax3
Why is the "housing" of the 800 non HD are made of titanium or magnesium, but out of plastics and elastomers?

George
How much "Made in Germany" is in the HD800? Only assembly and capsules? Or mechanics?

Matzio
I would be interested to know what is going on with the "design" of the wild impedance curve up.

mike99
Will there be the plug on the HD-800 sometime in the parts shop.

Eddie78
Intended for other models also on the proprietary connector should be detained HD 800 (why not just mini-XLR?).

John22
How do you find the HD 800 the perfect fit? What to do if he is not seated properly?

Questions about sales and marketing

rpnfan
Why are Sennheiser parts so expensive?

Comox
Why is the development of a wider circle of potential customers through massive reduction in the selling and the expansion of distribution channels (500 € plus is backwards, enabling the price war for online merchants do not) is preferred over a high-price strategy has been given?

Future issues

Gardeners
If a KHV is planned, especially with Dolby Headphone or a dedicated software solution and if so, how much would these be?

George
Is a high-quality digital radio solution (HD 800 Nivau) in prospect?

ax3
Will there be a ring membrane even in future other (possibly cheaper) models?

Eddie78
If the HD 800 in padding if required, further variants will be. The very tight and reared wehcsel-unfriendly, I find not so tense (PS who has already looked once, like the one abbekommt?)

McMusic
Plant Sennheiser, at some point return to the market, or electrostatic speakers, there will be possibly a new edition of Orpheus?

MacFrank
Sennheiser plans in the future to offer similar functionality from the time a product like the Sennheiser Lucas Dolby Pro-Logic decoder from the 90s?

Gbjerke of headfi
Sennheiser will in future offer its own headphone amplifier.

Similar question Krmathis of headfi
If it is for the top model of Sennheiser may again be special headphone amplifier like the time when Orpheus?
