An 11 Years Late Review: Audio Technica W11R review vs Beyerdynamic T1 vs W11JPN/W2002/W1000 The Best of Audio Technica's Woodies

if that so, did you ever tried W1000 with Yamamoto HA-02?

Indeed, just that the W1000 become very laid back. The strange thing about Yamamoto HA-02, compare to tube amps like Darkvoice and others is that the clarity is not that bad, the detail is on par with many SS amp on ATs. Of course, there are so many other tube amps out there, I cannot say they are all the same.

That seems to match what I've experienced, tube amps tends to smooth out the details or even rid of some detail depending on the amp and tubes. That's the reason why I sold my Woo and went with the extremely straight forward headphones to solid state DAC combination. On the other hand, I've been trying to find the best equalizers to colorize or neutralize my headphones. I'm still on the search for hardware-based equalizers.

Well, the Beyer doesn't sound half bad, just be glad you didn't trade it for a pair of HD800, lol.

I think I probably would have liked the HD800 better. Sometimes I don't mind a slightly recessed midrange and I could attempt EQing them. The treble peak on the T1s were just killer for me though. The amount of EQ I was doing in an attempt to balance them out was killing the detail in my music.

I found the treble peak on the HD800 even worse, with the less bass than the T1, its less bearable. Its like what happens when you EQ the treble up on a pair of AD700...

Is it that bad? FR graphs show the treble peak on the HD800s to be smaller. When I had the T1, I had to lower the treble somewhere around 15db or more.

Never judge a pair of headphones only based on the FR curves, hearing it first hand can be very different. And yea, IMO it is that bad.

I must say, that does not make the HD800 sound very appealing to me...
