decided to try my e2c amped by my audio technica HA2... WHOA!!! I didnt think it would have made that much difference being that theyre so sensitive and such a low impedence. I use 3db of treble boost and 2 db bass boost and it fills in the ends of the e2c spectrum nicely. Mids are much smoother and detailed. Mids are much "deeper and distant" sounding, like theres actually some soundstage depth now. Bass is more resonanant and controlled.. but not bloated. I use a 100 ohm impedence adapter to tame the noise.

anyone else amp their e2cs?.. am I crazy?

I have the same combo (E2c/Pocketamp2) and I also find it a bit too much in the lower end. I have a feeling it's the amp, because I've now hooked them up to a Portaphile V2, and the bass is perfect.
The sound of the E2c with the Portaphile is a revelation (for me, at least) of what the E2c is capable of when properly amped.

I sure do, and at a recent headfi meet, I tried the Olenbach 120 ohm impedance adapter, and liked that on the E2c while amped even more. When I place my next Mouser order, I will get a bunch of small 50-100 ohm Vishay Dales. Still not as good as the higher end ones, but much better than from the headphone out.

No matter what source, even my MZ-S1, with which an amp has almost no effect on my Grados, they always benefit tremendously from an amp, much moreso than my Grados. It's quite astonishing. Bass response and clarity especially.

I just got my PocketAmp2 v2 a couple of days ago and my E2C's sound pretty good, finally. I don't think they're too bassy.

Too bad the iPod doesn't support custom EQ's easily. You have to set each song to "Flat", then set each song to the custom EQ. Yuck! Do you have any ideas to get around this?

The PocketAmp2 is my first amp so I don't have a lot of experience but so far so good.
