I know the D66 Eggos are designed for portable use, but wonder how well they perform with an amp, specifically in a domestic set-up. I tried out my D22's with my stereo system, at home, and they are exceptional; I'm wondering if the D66's would be even better, perhaps edging out the erstwhile MDr-V6/7506's.

Has anyone tried this out, for themselves? I lean on the D66's mainly due to the fact that coiled cords tangle and short out, from personal experience. My other selection would be the Beyerdynamic DT 831's, but the D66's seem to be more versatile, since they culd be used for portable use besides home applications.

It depends on how much you like the bass 'slap' of the 7506 and it's brightness. All of these are accentuated when you amp it. The D66 is much more neutral that way.

Yes, I found the D22's were very smooth across the board, with or without an amp, so I suspect the D66's were the same. It just seems a bit of overkill to use high-quality portable headphones at home, but the Eggos are the most versatile headphones in recent memory.

Maybe I'll get the D66's and use them in my office with my various MD gear, and use the D22's at home. Or, vice-versa. Decisions!

I can get the V6's from Million Buy for $60 USD, plus shipping/tax, whereas the D66's are about $90 USD.

eggo's and v6's are two totally different phones and the v6 losses out in every way exept build quality. For a phone that has gotten so much "good press" here at head-fi,I was seriously dissapointed, it would get hot in no time, bloathed sound and that dreadfull cord. The extra dollars for the d66 is WELL spent.

I think both sort of cancel each other out. The 7506 isn't particularly comfortable, the D66 is. The bass is much more pronounced on the 7506 with real 'slam', the D66 gives you enough. The D66 folds smaller than the 7506. The 7506 seals a lot more than the D66.

BUY BOTH, you know you want to... ehehehehehe

No, buy the D66 and give the extra money to the red cross, thats what I would do...

i agree with what everyone is saying about the d66 being more balanced, etc. but for some irrational reason i find the v6 to be a more satisfying listening experience. don't get me wrong, they are both wonderful headphones, but the v6 seems to have more ease at reproducing music.
