I guess you could start by telling us a bit more, like:
* Any budget limitations?
* Is size/weight important? Or just portable...
* To be paired with the iPod 3G (old 3rd. generation I guess)?
* Looked into any specific make/models?
* ...

i have a 3rd generation touch ( the newest one)
budget limitation is around 200 but id prefer to spend less is a could some how
needs to be portable with my ipod, i dont really need a dac

and yes ive looked into a total airhead, mini3, ibasso t3, little dot mk1+, and than the more expensive amps which i dont think i could afford new or at all.
headamp pico, p51 mustang, and RSA tomahawk.

Seen a couple of your posts cck5! You're right, for every bit as helpful as Head-fi is for shining a light on some great products, it makes pulling the trigger all the more dificult, especially on budget!
My advise: Just eeny meeny miney moe this one. Stretch your budget a tad, so you won't be second guessing yourself right away.
I know this won't be the most helpful post, but you really won't know what's right for you until you hear it. Good luck Bud!

I have been shopping for awhile too. Been driving myself nuts looking over the for sale forum 100x a day hoping to see the "perfect" amp pop up that I can grab.

So...last night I just made the decsion, and I ordered a brand new Meier 3Move from TTVJ. No looking back now! I can't wait to hear what it sounds like with my Shure 530 IEMs and my SRH-840 closed headphones.

Just go with your gut, pick something that has a track record of positive reviews/opinions and go with it.

By the way, I found these 2 threads to be immensely helpful:

Good luck on your quest!

ehh when you're relatively new to the scene i'd say just pick something (whether it be based on cool looks, price, recommendations) and listen to yourself and scrutinize yourself what you like/don't like about it. too often i see people on these threads diving head first and wanting to get the 'best' thing for the price. i'll probably get flamed for this but i think it's important for you to listen to different products so you have a good reference because your tastes will now be based on your own ears rather than others'. patience will reward you the most in this hobby.

and trust me, i was a starving student when i discovered this site (still am

well i respect your opinion,but after the fiio e1 i dont feel like throwing any more money in the garbage. cause i felt there was no benefit using it at all.the sound was exactly the same. so if im spending money id like to see at least some improvement.
so if theres a decent priced amp that will give some improvement im all for that.

You are in New York where a number of Headfiers are. Perhaps you need to put a post up in the forum for new yorkers and ask to meet, listen to gear. There is no 100% for-you-only amp until you have heard it. Mine is out there, but it is not yet purchaceable. Yours, might be out there and available, it might not be. Before buying, I would try to listen, paying attention to your great location and making the extra effort while obeying the rules of prudence rather than hype.

Just a FYI, i liked my 3move however.. After upgrading my home rig, i found i didn't need a DAC/Amp combo so i sold it. At this stage i'm not even sure if i'm going to replace it anytime soon (budget restraints). If you plan on getting a big home-rig, i'd say don't splurge onto a DAC/Amp combo to save some pennies. Unless the DAC/Amp has a line level output on it

i travel on almost a day to day basis, so meeting in new york is probably not possbile for me, most of my time im upstate new york and in Toronto Canada.

and no need for a home rig as im traveling almost everyday.
