Not sure if someone has already done on of these, if so ignore this and just direct me to the aapropriate thread.

Bassically it seems that most headphones have certain amps that make them shine. So why not a list of headphones and the best amps to go with them or vise versa? For people like me who don't own a big amp ir an expensive pair of headphones it could be usefully in making that all important decision.

Most of the time personal preference or music tastes can change how people feel about amp/headphone combos

Same goes with tube amps, rolling the tubes usually helps... but in different ways for different headphones.

Might be a mighty large list.

you could say the same for headphones, but to search for the word headphones or amps is unweildy due to the number of posts. Thats why I thought of the list. I also think it is relevant as many phone sound optimized (from what I gather from this board) from use with certain amps.

I think such a thread would be completly useless. If you make a search to find the amp matching the AKG K401/501, you'll find that a year ago the clear winner was the creek obh11. Now everybody would reco the meta42 in a same price range.

Nobody would make a research on "headphones" narrow it at least on a few cans

"The best" is a personal preference. At the risk of actually making an on-topic response to the original post, these combinations work well for me:
