I'm certainly interested to see what you think of the EF-1... my wallet really hates when I constantly look at (and often buy...) things over budget.

Don't assume that the more expensive amp. are always going to be better, The impedence match and synergy between headphone and amp has many variables. The EF-1 I have coming is my first TUBE amp (Tube/Hybrid) so I hope it will match up with my 702's as well as I have read. As they are low impedence cans the more expensive Tube amp may have been too much for them.

Haha. Thats funny cause the guy that you just told that to said that to me earlier today. The irony.
Also you guy's said the Little dot 1+ is a good pick which are the best tubes and opamp for the ultrasone HFI-780 which is rated up there closer to pro 900 than pro750?

My Pro900's got here and are "Cooking" away in the CT computer room as I type. (I'm at work, and it's sound isolated back there). Any way, My initial impressions are quite favorable. They give me the punch of the basses similar to my Denon ahd5000's but better and the mids are far better with the Pro's. The highs are quite bright but extremely acurate as well I like to call it "Breaking Glass" highs. This can be a bit uncomfortable after a while but can be EQ'd down a tad. The mids in the pro900's far excede the Denons and the AKG 702's, but both the Ultrasone and the AKG's still need a good bit of "Burn-In" time.
As far as overall comfort the pads are getting softer and the clamping strength is just about perfect. Extremely comfortable cans. The coiled cord is too heavy and bouncey during use and as such I will simply put that cord away as a spare.
Overall a simply great pair of headphones for <500.00. I will add more later after burn in
Now all that being said and The EF-1 not here yet. I absolutey expect that the ultrasomes will really shine with the tube/ss hybrid. I'll start burning it in as soon as it arrives. It just cleared US customs on Friday so it will probably be Wed of Thur before i get it.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the Pro 900s, boomy, they're a great pair of headphones and I was extremely impressed with the upgrade from my ATH-A900. The treble harshness and bass boominess will go away with burn-in, some believe they take up to 300 hours to burn in so give them time.

Thanks,
These will be around for a long time so I'll have plenty of time to burn them in. When I first started auditoning headphones and then sold off what I liked the least, it was easy but now I'm finding it harder and harder to part with them. Even those with similar signatures. I have seven pair of headphones now. I even ended up getting the Milian SVT's again after returning my first pair because the isolation was so great and I really missed the quiet with the kids around.

Well, both the Ultrasones and the Head-direct have had a couple of weeks to cook and I must say, the synergy is really pretty good. smooth, warm, spacious. The one downside is that I don't have an EQ between my CD and my Amp so the "Breaking Glass" highs of the Ultrasone are even a bit more harsh with the EF1. Alesis EQ on it's way so we'll tweek the highs a bit and have another go at it.

I never really had a problem with the highs before, and the EF-1 has made them really nice and "sparkly" to me. The soundstage was opened up immensely, and yes, definitely warm

. I'm really enjoying the synergy too, and I couldn't have hoped for a better experience with my first full-size amp.

but do the 900 really need more warmth? I think it´s on the limit on my Heed/901 combo. Perfectly balanced with lots of cotton wool though.

I must say I am curious about getting some cheaper tube amp. But how often do you have to change tubes and how hard/expensive are they? Also do the EF-1 match well with a sennheiser HD 600 as well? Also no problems with sibilance?

Where would you order an EF1 which ships internationally?
