I just got a pair of the UE Super.Fi 5 Pro's. I really enjoy these earphones. I am looking at getting a portable amp to use with them. I have a 5th gen iPod i will be using it with. I am trying to stay around the $100-$150 price range but if it means a much better amp i could wait a bit longer and save up a bit more. I am basically looking for something that works well with IEM's. I prefer and overall balanced detailed sound.

Maybe someone will disagree with me, but I didn't notice much difference when hooking up my ipod through my presonus firebox or with just my ipod. Those UEs are super sensitive! What don't you like about the sound?

iv been using my sf5p through a uha-3 to my ipod~to me, it sounds like the bass is reduced a bit but vocals are clearer.

Believe it or not, I have a PA2V2 that cost me about 60 clams that works fine with your IEMs. I have the same ones.

If you want to break the $150 mark, then there are several others out there.

The "search" button is your friend.

It's not that i don't like anything about the sound. I am new to headphone amps. i have been using headphones for a few years now. but i have always been told that a headphone amp just provides you with a cleaner signal. so i was just looking for suggestions to see if i could make any improvement on what i already have. i like the sound of them now but if there is a way they will sound better than great. for what its worth i do have an Antique Sound Labs MG Head OTL tube headphone amp that i use with my Grado SR325i's at home. I tried them hooked up to that and i noticed the sound had a more spread out open cleaner sound. I really enjoyed them hooked up to this amp. I am trying to find something like this for portable. The overall sound was just cleaner and the separation between instruments was better.

i think what you are looking for is an iPod Line Out + an amp.

the iPod Line Out will bypass the iPod's own amp and send the unadulterated signal direct to the external one.

these seem pretty good:

Microshar.com

this eBay seller is selling them for a lot less.

other people may have other suggestions. there's also a lot of talk on these forums about the ipod line out if you do a search.
