Hey ,

I got the sennheiser's 650 couple months ago but was never able to use them on my computer to listen to music or anything due to lack of power from my onboard sound.

I was wondering if you guys could suggest me what amp i should buy for those headphones. I dont not want to spend 150-200$ maximum. I just want to have a decent sound and not pay too much.

Thanks fellas!

Why get the HD650 if you are not willing to get a decent amp? Do you plan on getting a high quality amp in the future?

You would need a pair of RCA-out connectors on the soundcard, or use a RCA-mini converter and plug it in. Obviously, sound quality would be compromised when using a converter, but not greatly.

If you didn't have a pricerange? Well, a reasonable suggestion would be the X-Can V3. Best bang for the buck amp for HD650 in my opinion.

Well, I'm looking into the Stello HP100, $600. There are many others out there that have good synergy with the HD650 (well, not that many). The HD650 is a 'picky' headphone.

HeadRoom makes 650s sound too round, speaker like. HD650 is a warm headphone as it is, and a HR amp will make it even warmer.

I didn't find them all that 'picky'. These phones sound pretty darn good even out of my laptop's headphone jack. Better amp will logically make the sound better, but good headphones will sound good regardless.

Its not to make them sound decent, its to make them sound like they are supposed to sound that makes them picky.

If you can squeeze it into your budget; a Cardas, or other after-market cable makes for a dramatic improvement. A very good system can be built around the HD-650's.

Cables are usually last in line when it comes to building a system, and dont have as much as an impact as a new source would have.

1 - Headphone
2 - Amp + Source
3 - Cables
