amp for my k1000

I would get the Aleph 30 because it has a better power supply and balanced inputs. You don't need to terminate your K1000 in dual-XLRs to run them balanced. Just connected the bare tires to the speaker-bindings on the power amplifier which has balanced inputs.

No the K1000s come with an adapter cable for connection to a speaker amp.

I have a feeling by his statement that he already has a pair that does not have this extension. If this is the case, get the Equinox. It's excellent. If you DON'T have a K1000 yet, then make sure the speaker extension comes with it. By the way, I'd normally recommend the Aleph 3 over the 30 since Pass didn't actually build the 30s themselves, but that 3 is in bad shape; it's supposed to be black in color. I don't know if it was heat that did that to it, but I don't want to know what else has happened internally.

Edit:
<-----Well thereI was saving it for something big....oh well, post 1000!!!!!!

That discoloration is what happens to the anodizing on heatsinks (or aluminum in general) when they get hot and say hot for long periods of time. At best it indicates a good deal of use, at worst, overheating.

I believe there are a few other Aleph 3's up on A'gon right now that are in better shape visually. You might also consider the Pass Aleph 5, which looks identical to the Aleph 3 but has balanced inputs. I have not heard the Aleph 5 so I can't comment, perhaps if you get one you can

aaw, help me out guys. i have k1000 on the way with no amp. i need to get something..

The Aleph amps mate really well with the K1000s, although you will need a pre-amp or a source with volume control to control the volume. As for the GS-1000, there's no way of using them with the Aleph amps unless you reterminate them, but I wouldn't recommend it, it might blow the drivers.

good call. ya that seems like to much power for them.

My source will be a sony scd-1

so my choises thus far:

aleph 3
aleph 30
aleph j
alpeh 5

im leaning for the 3 just because its seems to be a promising choice around here

Why not go for a FirstWatt F1? It is supposedly the best amp Nelson Pass for pairing with the K1000.

Oh I don't know, it certainly wouldn't be the price, would it? [/sarcasm]

I recommend you also consider the Red Wine Audio Signature 30. Great sound, reasonable price, does not need a preamp, and matches very well with K1000s. See the amp comparison link in my Sig for more info. This amp is new and not well known at Headfi, but do a Google search and you'll find very positive feedback on this amp. It has a very tube-like sound, which is different than Pass amps.

BTW: The only Pass amp I've used in my system was the F1, which many consider to be the top Pass for K1000s. The F1 had a number of good points, including great control and excellent bass. But at least for me and my musical taste, I choose the Sig 30 over the F1 for pure listening enjoyment.
