I know that there are about a million of these, i'm sorry. Basically I have an iPod Classic 80gb and I'm getting Shure SE530's tomorrow. I want to buy a portable amp to get the full sound quality out of the earphones. I live in NYC so I'd rather go to a shop and buy one there. Does anyone know any shops in NYC where I can buy a portable amp?

b-e-n, you have a nice source and iem. Using a chepa amp w/o a line out will defeat the purpose of what you already have.

I would suggest you consider getting a line out. It does not have to be an expensive one, an entry model from ALO or Turbo will set you back about $60. Then contact Head Direct for their MiniBox-E+, or iBasso for their P3. Another possibility would be the Mini^3 by Rockhopper.

The two amps I mentioned can not be bought at an store but through the mail.

Ben,

I see you're new to Head-fi. mrarroyo is a very, very wise man and a great resource when it comes to amps. If he suggests it, I suggest you listen to him and explore this possibility to see if it can work for you.

Good luck!

Well if you are getting Shure SE530s, I would suggest you connecting the iPod's Line Out Dock---In-line volume attenuator---SE530s and have a listen. Then decide whether you actually need to buy an amp. You'll hear zero hiss if you are using your headphones this way. Believe me, its worth a try and it doesn't cost you anything a part from a $2-3 stereo coupler connecting your LOD to In-line volume attenuator.
