Hi guys

I ordered a pair of HD650 a few minutes ago, and am wondering what might be a good amp for them. Well at the moment I'm using a OP Based Amp with a OPA134. I don't know if they are enough to drive the senns properly. I also own a pair of BUF634 but I don't want to use them, I tried them and I don't like them, they are a bit muddy or something like that.

Do you think the OPAs can drive them or do I need to build a new amp? And if so, what would you recommend?

The opamps themselves are really only part of the equation. Is it a simple CMoy-type amp with no frills, just an opamp in a feedback loop? The way you describe it, I'd bet you would find an improvement with a beefier amp -- ie, output buffer, multiloop feedback, class-A biasing, nice strong power supply, etc.

You'll probably also want a better opamp. The OPA134 family can make the HD650s produce noise, that's not a problem with any opamp you try, but an opamp like the AD86x0 family is really synergistic with them and will sound considerably better.

If you're talking about an amp that's on par with the 650s, I would look at least to a PPA. Again, they'll probably sound pretty good however you drive them, but you might be missing out on a lot of their potential.
