hi ppl,

This is my first ever thread on here, so please for give me if there any mistakes or if this question as been asked before.

What im looking for guys is adive on which amp to matchup for my gs1000. At the moment im using a Gilmore lite with dps, because ive just got into this headphone world im not to sure if im getting the most out of my gs1000, which i dont think i am. The sound is good but as not blown me away.

The rest of my setup consits of a heigh end cdp with loads of tweaks, good power cable and good interconnects, so im just looking for an amp to match with the rest of my set up. Dont no if i am being let down my the glite here. Also i dont if i would like a tube or ss amp, i never heard a tube amp or for that matter many ss amps as the hifi shops in the uk dont stock many high end ones.

I am thinking of getting a gilmore gs1, grace design m902 or singlepower (supra), which would be best amp to bring the very best out the gs1000?

The gs1000 also get slaged of my there midrange which amp will help bring out there midrange?

thanks for any advice given before hand.

The M902 has been highly recommended around here and the tube synergy with Grado's is well known. I wouldn't know about the GS1. It seems "cheap" compared to the other two amplifiers you mentioned. Some people have regarded it as quite dry and analytic in it's sound.

Personally I use the Corda Opera and it works fantastic. Great synergy with the headphones. But then again, I'm not much of an amplifier-believer or so to say. I find only small differences (that I can't decide if they are good or bad) changing between different amplifiers. The Opera puts a bit more emphasis on the midrange than other amplifiers I've heard. Great punchy bass too. Very tight. Well extended highs too which sound amazing with classical music.

Since I got my GS1000 with the Black Dragon cable from Moon Audio I can't really say how your un-cabled GS1000 will react to the Opera (should you buy one). Try reading up on it a bit. Iron_Dreamer and some others have great reviews of it.

Absolutely go for the Singlepower. Call Mikhail and ask him what kind of tube set would work with the GS.

The Gilmore lite was less than ideal when I tried it together. I'd stay away from the Gilmore stuff with the GS. Great amps but not the best synergy with this headphone.

Hello,

please have a look to my Head-Fi-forum "some recommandations for my BROCKSIEPER EARMAX silver".

You will see I had nearly the same problems in an opposite direction some weeks ago.

I'm the owner of a tube-amp from the german (one man) company BROCKSIEPER, model EARMAX silver edition. A very, very fine amp.
After testing a lot now I use a NORDOST TYR interconnect cable and the GRADO GS1000.

This is a winning team ... think about it.

Best regards

Thomas
