Hello everyone,

In the begining I would like to point out that I am not by any means an audiophile and I don't have much of an experience when it comes to high quality sound.

For the past 5 years I have been using Koss UR-40 and Xonar DX for pretty everything (music, movies, gaming).
I decided it was time for a new gear. I was reading quite a lot for some time now about which headphones to buy and I chose DT 990 pro (250 Ohm) mainly for gaming but also for some more bassy music.

In the near future (year or so depending on financial situation) I would also like to buy a pair of HD 660s/HD700 mainly for music.

Now, the question is with what gear should I pair it. As for the DAC I'm still using my Xonar DX. It's 5 years old but I figured that if it still works then there is no point spending extra money as I have read it's still a decent DAC.

When it comes to AMP I would rather buy one that will drive DT 990 I already bought and in the future either hd660s or hd700 (I'm leaning more towards 700). I've read that 700 sounds best with tube amp to better handle treble peaks, but again, I have never used an amp before so I don't know the difference in sound between tube and ss amps.

A lot of you guys recommend Little dot Mk III but I don't know if for a price of 280 EUR it is still a good buy.
Other options would be schiit vali2 ( €180), valhalla2 ( €380), project ember (pre built for €345), beyerdynamic a20 (used for €290).

As you can see I did some research but as I said earlier I'm just a newb when it comes to audio but I want to give my ears a chance to listen to better audio and make them more sensitive.

Thank you for reading and I hope you guys could help me there.

Best regards
Thomas

I would say for now the Xonar DX wil make good enough DAC (for now).
I prefer to disable the motherboard's on-board audio, in the BIOS, when adding an internal PCI/PCI-E sound card.

Have you tried the UNi Xonar Drivers?
