Hey,

I've currently got a Grado SR80i and an Asus Xonar Essence STX. However, I am interested in upgrading and I've currently got a pair of Audeze LCD2 on home loan which I can buy if I like them. However, I've obviously not doing them justice with the Essence STX and it is currently looking like a definite that I'll buy them so I'm going to need to purchase a external DAC + headphone amp. This will be my first time buying a external DAC or headphone amp.

The problem I'm having at the moment is that I've looked through some of the mega-thread for amps with the Audeze LCD2 (Not all 320+ pages though :P) and I've really no idea what the brands and models people are talking about (also I've googled some of the ones mentioned and most of them are way out of my price range). Also I live in the UK and it seems quite difficult to get hold of some of the equipment people talk about. For example I only managed to find 1 company that had any Audeze LCD2s stocked (some companies I phoned up had no idea what I was talking about) and then they were good enough to loan me their only pair.

Currently I'm looking at the Burson HA-160DS DAC/Headphone amp and from what I've read there does not seem to be any glaring issues with pairing this with the LCD2. Is this a good choice? Is there any options around the same price range of the HA-160DS? (~£600 in the UK) I'm willing to spend a little bit more if there is a obvious better option that is slightly more expensive than this one.

Thanks :)

Burson gear is known for having a good synergy with Audez'e cans. There's also the HA-160 and you have the choice of buying a separate Dac like an HRT streamer for example.

I know another budget options, but they don't provide enough juice to this headphones.

Thanks. In terms of getting a separate amp+dac I was also considering the Schitt Lyr + Bifrost. It seems the Lyr is quite powerful and should be able to power the headphones fine. How does this combo compare with the Burson HA-160DS?
