Looking for help for a first time amp purchase for use on my laptop using my SR225's. Portable would probably be best. Budget $100-$250. I got plenty of volume, just looking for a better sound. I also have PX100, and Pk2's I use with my iPod's for portable use. Any help will be appeciated.

Thanks for the link, spent most of the day reading, lots of good info. Kind of settled on the iBasso D2 Viper. Was disappointed to find out it was sold out, going to wait a bit to see when it becomes available.

Forgive the self promotion, but you could certainly check out this bargain choice I have in the FS forum.

DIY amps are always more cost effective, and MisterX is widely thought of as one of the best DIY builders. This amp/dac includes the now rare (because no longer available) and highly thought of Pint amp.

Mods, if there's any reason I shouldn't be linking to a FS thread in a discussion forum, feel free to delete this post.

Not a mod, but your position would definitely be a little biased.

On the other hand, the HPDac is a fantastic design by dsavitsk and being built by MisterX, it should be definitely of great quality. The amp in it is very similar to a PINT (3-channel using high current output opamps to directly drive headphones). That design is pretty much the "standard" design now utilized by most portable amps from Mini3 to Pico to GoVibe, etc. Opamp choices vary of course - what's in yours? "Standard" for HPDac has LM6172.

I still have one that my girlfriend uses on her laptop (she doesn't like bulky equipment), it's fantastic bang/buck and I wouldn't give it up for anything.
