Ambient Music

Do you all find that ambient music benefits from nice headphones and an amp/DAC as much as any other genre, or is there not as much benefit because the music is simpler with less detail?

I’m assuming that the majority of ambient music is done on computers so how much separation and detail can you really get. It’s not like listening to classical music or a rock band. I still believe you can benefit  from a decent set of headphones. I mostly use my Westone W3 and switch between those and the trinity deltas and atlas.

On a side note, does the Head Fi website slow down for you in chrome?

I think ambient improves more than most electronic genres with good equiptment
Because of it's simplisity it's usually the small details and sounds that make the songs.

For me the music is much more immersive with better soundstage and detail to the sounds. I recently got a k7xx + Ak100ii.

I found this by looking at my Bandcamp feed. Gotta love Bandcamp.

Also, since I realized he hasn't been mentioned yet, Brooklyn-based composer Kenneth Kirschner might be one of the most notable musical minds of our time. He is known for long-form compositions that challenge the forms of modern composition and are free of most current classifications. All of his music is available for free from his website in both FLAC and MP3 format. Each composition is titled after the date on which it was started. Not all of his music could be considered ambient, but some of his works are sparse enough to warrant being mentioned in this thread.

Time Released Sound is a label worth checking out. In addition to providing high-quality releases, they specialize in offering strictly limited, hand-made special editions of their new releases. Many albums released on the label go beyond just the music itself.

Not a purely ambient experience, but most certainly a very calm and relaxing journey.
