I think 2018 has not been a good year for the Ambient genre in general...
I beg to differ. I found so many great albums this year.
I don't know... I seemed to find more albums that I liked in the past few years than I do know. Maybe I'm not searching in the right places.
The selection is HUGE but you can't go wrong with Brian Eno.
I was in an avant-garde ensemble back in college in the late 70s, and in our lighter moments we composed and performed stuff which could be considered ”ambient”. I continued to dabble in it after college, which led me to soundscape recording. Ironically, although I’d known of Eno’s Music For Airports for decades, I never actually heard it until a few years ago. Since then it’s become my favourite of the series because it’s the most benign, while retaining enough musical interest.
