am i'm doing it right??: IMOD 5.5> ?? cable>Micro>e500/sh650

I hope some experienced users of portable rigs are willing to confirm (or not) if i'm doing it right. I'm currently using the iaudio X5L together with the HR Micro and and e500/Sennh. 650. I'm looking to upgrade my portable rig with the IMOD 5.5G and in the future propabely the AE-2. The thing is that is that normally you would listen before spending. This seems impossible. I have not seen any headfier living in or near Utrecht, The Netherlands with the rig discribed.

So......am i'm doing the right thing here?

Advise on future (semi) portable amp is also very much appriciated. The r-71 is out of stock. The Hornet might be to upfront for my more or less jazzy tast. Would I realy hear the difference between the Micro and an AE-2?

If you already own a 5.5G iPod you might consider having it iModded.
With everything else I would go with the 4G iMod. It is considerably cheaper and you will not need a clumsy dock connector but can use a small mini to mini connect.

Thanks for the feedback. However I like the video option, So I still want to go for the 5 or 5.5. Am I still doing the right thing SQ wise?

Mrarroyo, Could you please be so kind to share your thoughts re the Micro, R71 or AE2?

I have not listened to the AE-2 yet so I will defer on that one. The Supermicro IV is my favorite amp with the LaRocco PRII MkII in second, and the SR71 in a close third.

If you are a bit short on cash then consider the Porta Corda MkIII. I has about 97% of the sound of the SR-71 for $160 including S&H. Quite a bargain if you ask me.

On the other hand if you like Jazz and youf favorite venue is an small club that sits 20 to 25 patrons and is dark/smokey with a 4 piece combo just a few feet away then get the TTVJ Millet Hybrid Amp.

I have not mentioned the Xin Reference Amp because it is just begining its burn in cycle (100 hours on one and 48 hours on the secon Beta Samples I have). However if the shape up as I am hoping then ... #1.

Truly any of these amps will bring an smile to your face. Good luck.

I have the HR Micro and just wondering how the Xin Micro will compare with this amp (for both the e500 and sh650). Or should I go for the supermacro. Or the AE2 (has a gain switch).

I'm lost in wonder and totaly confused.

I use the LaRocco PRII MkII with E500, yes they hiss but so do 99% of the portable amps outhere. However the hiss IMO is only an issue when the music is not playing and you have the volume way past 3:00 o'clock.

I did not care for the HR Micro Amp with the 2006 Desktop Module and I would choose the Supermicro IV over it. However only you can truly decide what you like or not. Good luck.

iMod ipod are dead silent with no hiss at all when music is not playing. So if you use SuperMicro IV(i owned), E500 with iMod ipod(will receive soon) and you willbe perfectely happy. Because SuperMico IV has synergy with E500(large 3D soundstage with exceptional details). BTW if you buy XIN reference and you may like more because it's has larger soundstage with more details than SuperMicro IV.

SuperMicro-IV and the blown up version which is the Reference will have liquid ease driving anything between 24 to 300 oHm. Taking into account that Xin build SuperMicro-IV and the rest of his amps with ER-4S (100 oHm) in mind, driving a low impedance Shures will be a no sweat effort.

SuperMacro-IV is popular for those like to tweak and features - it has hardware crossfeed, bass boost, multi gain etc - so if you love to tweak to experiment with various sound - SuperMacro should be considered.

Gain switch is important if you have more than one cans with vastly varying level of resistance, if you only use low impedance IEM, don't bother with high gain - it will make your IEM hiss.
