as i am located in indonesia, i had my cousin to go to his local GC in his local LA area to get me a super.fi pro.
he was charged $249.99 instead of the $229 i've been hearing a lot.
what does he have to say to get the $229 price?
is it still possible for him to go back there and get the difference back?

for those of you who got the $229 price, would you mind letting me know which GC you got it from?

thanks

The salesman gave me a price of $249. I told him I had heard that others were getting them for $229, and he looked at his computer and said, yup, we can sell them to you for $229.

I wanted to see them, even if I couldn't listen to them (sealed package and no way they were going to let me demo). No discount price and they knew nothing about a previous "special"

I had the exact same scenario as Old Dave had.

I told them I thought there were on special for $229. The manager said "If I give you that price, will you take them today?" I said "Deal"

Ironically, after close to three days worth of use, the right channel connector that plugs into the earphone, became damaged.

Called up their tech support and they are sending me a new cable AND a free TShirt!

Great service so far.

Guitar Center is one of those places that actually allows negotiation. As such, you'll have all sorts of salesmen. Some will try very hard to keep a higher gross margin, others will rather turn a product. If anything, you'll probably have the best luck "dealing" with the managers since it seems to be more in their benefit to just move product without losing money.

The rule of thumb I generally go by when dealing with them is to offer approx 1/2 of what the list price (not their reduced price) is on the price card (it's the smaller figure at the top). For the most part it's pretty accurate for what they can do. Of course there are those few products where the prices are set. Mogami and Moster cables, for example, seem to have set prices. A few others will have set minimums that they aren't supposed to go below.

Basic rule of thumb: If you aren't getting the price you want, and you think it's a reasonable offer (particularly if you've seen the amount you're offering online), walk, or decide how much you're willing to go up on your offer before the value of the item becomes lower than the price you're paying for it.
