as far as bass/bass impact a500 wins hands down. Its got that boomy subwoofer bass that shakes your head. Turn it pass 60% on my dial and i feel the air pulse with music making the little hairs in my ear tickle ( i like that). None of the higher ups do that. Just tight bass without any impact even at 80% on the most basshead rap tracks. The higher ends get too loud passed that, where the a500 can be comfortable at 100% with no distortion. The a500 has a one side cloth cable while the higher ups have a rubber Y cord.

dont get me wrong the higher ups have cleaner sound all over making all the details come out. The soundstage/instrument seperation is great and on the ad2000, the mids arent recessed where it can annoy you on the a500. The pads on the higher ups are of better build quality ie non flakey pleather on the a900ltd/velour on ad2000 and aluminum. The a500 has flakey pleather and made of plastic. The biggest improvement for me is the a900ltd have no siblence to my ears. This is a god send, I dunno, i enjoy the overall sound but its like 90% perfect where you all you can do is focus on the missing 10%

I do not think you are crazy at all. Basshead maybe? I see some Beyer DT770s in your future. Let me know when you want to get rid of the AD2000s.

The AD2000's bass is very strong and also very tight and accurate. Its bass is one of the AD2000's strong qualities.

The A700 and A900LTD I've heard have muddier and boomier bass.

i think its my musical preference that favors the muddier and boomier bass. Listening to mostly rap chock full of 808 drum machines makes it fun and i think the a500s are fun cans. I think the higher ups are more refined and rap isnt supposed to be refined. Rap is music from the streets, grimey raw and uncut not highly polished like classical. basically if your listening to dirty music, you need a dirty can hehe.

ive listened to the dt770s and they have great bass and no siblence which i like, just not enough detail on the highs to keep me interested.

i find if i EQ my a900ltd's to maximum bass, then i get headshaking bass but its too much for me sometimes :p

To clarify, I also don't think there's anything wrong with preferring the A500 over the A900LTD or AD2000. I can imagine it sounding very enjoyable and exciting with some music, and preferable to the other two.
