Does anyone know of an alternative to Creative Playcenter? Every time I try to access it it crashes. I'm on windows XP, using the latest driver and firmware for the Nomad Jukebox 3. It'd kick so much ass if electronics, such as my Grado SR-60s and now my Nomad (or Playcenter, whatever,) didn't hate me. If anyone knows of a way to fix this crashing problem, that would also be cool.

Hmm. I guess playcenter is so bad that people are willing to pay for an alternative. Personally...I can't see playcenter deciding to stop crashing on me. So, I may be returning it and going the ipod route...
Or perhaps i'll deal with my dreaded PCDP for now and wait for a better player to come out, seeing as how the ipod is so very expensive for someone like me, someone whose wallet doesn't resemble an obesity.

just try uninstalling it and resinstall. my PlayCenter works fine on WinXP Pro with both a Zen and NJB3. It looks al little bloated but it works just fine.

I tried the reinstalling route - over five times! I tried changing the skin, reinstalling the drivers, just about everything you can think of. Apparently it's the new firmware that causes the crashes.

Since you are obviously in great need of Notmad, either give the author a break and buy the newest version, or download a somewhat older version for free. I have a few older versions and I don't even have a player

Well, I installed Notmad. The only problem is, I can only transfer one file at a time in the trial version. I'm not ready to spend $25 on something that I shouldn't even need, so as of now, it's still going back. I may get an older ipod or something, and just frequently switch tracks with the fast firewire transfer. I have to say, though, the audio isn't unimpressive on the Nomad.

Sephka,

Another option available now is Windows Media Player 9. There are drivers available that allow you to manage and transfer data to your Jukebox.

Creatives new player, Mediasource, is a lot better than playcenter as well, however, I think it's just for Audigy 2 cards.

Notmad is an excellent software though. I highly recommend buying it if you have any creative player.

I have simialr problems with the Nomad.

Tell me, is it crashing with both USB and firewire and or jsut firewire? When is it crashing (a few seconds into transfer?) What motherboard do you have? (MSI?)

Lesee. Thanks for the information about the WMP alternative. I haven't tried USB, because my motherboard has but two USB slots, and both are in use (printer and mouse.) With firewire, though, it crashes when I go to the Nomad sidebar, well before transfering ever starts. My motherboard is an intel of some kind...see, while I know how to build PCs now, I got this junker when I was PC illiterate (AKA I bought it,) so I’m not 100% positive what the motherboard is.
