It is time for me to renew my AAA membership. I am wondering whether there is a decent nationwide alternative as I have had a number of bad experiences with the AAA.

The last one was when we had a blowout and could not get the wheel off. They promised to send someone out in 90 mins, 90 mins later we phoned them back and the said it would be at least another 90mins and then said that they had never promised to be out in 90 mins in the first place. If they had said in the first place that it would be 3 hours I would have made other arrangements.

Anyway, does anybody use a good, reliable alternative to the AAA or are they all the same.

Thanks

I now have an add-on to my T-Mobile cellphone service for $2.99 a month, I think. I had to use them once, and the vendor they used where I was at the time was very quick to arrive. In fact, I didn't remember the emergency service number, so I just called T-Mobile general customer service (611), and they patched me thru to the car service with a smile. And the service goes with the cellphone, not a vehicle.

Dunno if any other cellphone providers have similiar service.

When I switched my car insurance to Geico I canceled AAA and went with their road side assistance. Cost for this service is $9 which is added to your six month policy. That's about $1.50 per month/$18 per year which is cheaper than AAA ($50-$60 annually). I had to use it once when I locked my keys in my car. I was out in the middle of nowhere by the Alaskan Russian River. Someone was at my location within the hour.
