I think I've decided on one of these four.

Can someone please rank the following earphones:

1. Head-Direct RE2 ($79)
2. NuForce NE-7M/NE-8 (With Comply T-400 Tips) ($69)
3. Altec Lansing iM716 (No Podectomy) ($69)
4. Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 3 (With Westone ES2 Cable) ($69)

All will be amped by FiiO E5 ($19).

I listen to a lot of alternative rock and punk rock, and quite a bit of pop rock too. I might also occasionally listen to some jazz or soundtrack music.

Sound isolation is quite important because I will be doing most of my listening on a loud school bus.

Thanks a lot!
Leon

Oh, one more note.

The Altec Lansing iM716's I can get for $50 with shipping while the Head-Direct RE2's I can get for $79 with shipping (but with a Fiio amp), so if I do get the Altec Lansing iM716's, I have enough money for a decent $30 portable amp. Any recommendations on that?

Eh, c751's for $105?

(Oh, I just noticed HD dropped the price of them, most probably due to the C751's pricing).

Well, it's a real tossup between the RE2 + fiio and the Denon c751's.
I'll try and find my Fiio amp and do a direct comparision as I have both.

I'm pretty sure it's dropped for Thanksgiving/Black Friday.

As for having $30 for an amp with the IM716, I doubt you can really get anything good with that besides a Fiio lol.

That would be awesome. Thanks so much in advance.

Hmm. But looking, at the Denon's, they seem a bit out of my budget.

I would get the 716s, get the mod done, and order a FiiO E5 (new model, much improved over the E3, I believe). Own both the modded 716s (47ohm) and the RE2s, and the 716s are a better phone, considering both need an amp to shine. Also, I had the Denons and returned them (found the highs too harsh and the drivers too big). I had a fellow head-fi'er do the mod on the 716s, and she did an excellent job. PM me for details if you are interested (unless you are going the DIY route).

I've decided.

If the Altec Lansing UHP336 is available for $39.99, then I'm getting that. If not, then I'll probably grab the Head-Direct RE1 or RE2, depending on price. Then of course, I'll grab a FiiO E5.

the uhp336s are rebranded super.fi3s while the im716s are rebranded er-4s. It seems like you're sacrificing a lot of sq for price. My stock im716s unmodded driven through a 2g nano did fine. I listen to a lot of punk rock and since there's a lot going on at times most phones sound messy or noisy, with the im716s the instrument separation was very good. I got uhp336s RMAd back from altec lansing and gave them away they simply couldn't compare. RE-2s are supposed to trump the im716s in every way stock, but i'm not too sure about the instrument separation.

btw where can you get the im716s for 50?
